For those of you who didn't know, SBO(Super Battle Opera, a fighting game tournament in Japan) happened this weekend along with the TGS. For those who don't understand what this means, basically tournaments, and some fighting game announcements.

So besides Tekken Tag Tournament 2 being announced, players finally got their legitimate first hands on the new upgraded version of SSF4.

SSF4: Arcade Edition has 3 major changes to it that differs it from the main console version.

1) Character changes..a lot of characters have been buffed and nerfed in this first, as they update and tweak around with their new info about the latest SF addition, these changes are not final though and may be tweaked a bit more before release.

Abel
~command grab damage nerf
~more recovery on breathless
~rolls have a little bit more recovery

Adon
~Adon doesn't get up as quickly after a knock down now, although it still seems to be quicker than other characters.
~EX Jaguar Tooth doesn't do the yellow glow, like other EX moves, until after you reach the wall. Not sure what effect this has, if any, on the move.

Akuma
~Same as ryu, escaping hurricane kick nerf
~Ultra 2 is faster and apparently can be comboed into from a Shoryuken, Focus Attack Dash Cancel.
~EX Dragon Punch damage reduced.
~Hard Punch Red Fireball damage increased.
~May have slower walk speed. Akuma was tied for fastest walk speed in the game in SSF4.

Balrog
~Ultra 2 is indeed 2x Half Circle

Bison
~U2 now charge motion, way more recovery

Blanka
~Blocked Blanka Ball now recoils at half the distance, much easier to punish.

Cammy
~Normals easier to combo
~tiger-knee Canon Strike no longer possible. Can still Canon Strike normally, EX can still be tiger-kneed.
~HK spiral arrow's distance to get 2 hits is shorter

Chun Li
~sweep doesn't seem to deal as much stun

Cody
~faster walk speed
~ex zonk distance is shorter
~Medium ruffian is longer
~Hard ruffian may hit some crouching characters, like Gief

Dan
~Higher jumping taunt (lol, I'm calling OP buff on this one)

Dee Jay
~Ultra 1 seemed to do less chip damage
~standing HK is now overhead

Dhalsim
~no new changes

Dudley
~Rose taunt has less recovery
~EX Ducking, with less recovery than regular
~crouch HK comes out faster

El Fuerte
~Ultra Spark got a damage nerf

Fei Long
~no new changes

Gen
~Ultra 2 (啼牙? jump QCF x2 one) is faster

Gouken
~Gouken's LP rush punch has no forward movement, but is faster.
~His counter is now DP + Punch. LP for low body counter, MP for upper, HP is unclear.

Guile
~Damage down

Guy
~Hitbox tweak on mp hp combo, doesnt wiff crouchers anymore.
~Lp hozanto is safe from spd and light hawk spd
~U2 is decent now, less recovery on whiff, distance fixed.
~His flip grab has been toned down, 120 damage instead of 200
~Hp Hozanto is faster than before
~forward -> MP overhead is now 2 hit

Hakan
~Slide has now 2 options afterwards: P -> additional attack, K -> auto oil up
~oils stack
~360+K can now be cancelled
~Jump arc changed?

Honda
~Ultra 2 is now HCBx2
~Damage decreased

Ibuki
~Can connect target combo to HK? (not sure what this means)

Juri
~The upkick part of her fireball will combo into the fireball itself now if you do not store it

Ken
~EX Tatsu can be blocked low.
~More recovery on jab SRK.
~Can follow up jab SRK AA with EX Hadouken, just like Ryu

Makoto
~gets Armor Break EX Hayate,
~more invincibility on Oroshi,
~damage boost on Fukiage.
~File under "Wild Speculation". It *looked* like her Fukiage (Up Punch) hitbox had been moved forward a bit. Also I may have seen her combo into Fukiage after EX Hayate in the corner but tbh I'm not really certain what I saw when that happened. Crazy mixups were afoot

Rose
~lost all invincibility on Soul Satellite.

Rufus
~no new changes

Ryu
~hurricane kicks are not good for escaping anymore

Sagat
~more recovery on tiger knee
~damage BUFF on tiger uppercut
~Vanilla's standing lk is back. One hit, special cancelable, vanilla distance, does near 40dmg.
~light kick Tiger Knee is vanilla like, mk and hk are useless.
~More recovery on high Tiger Shot
~angry scar is now done using kick button

Sakura
~no new changes, though might be slight damage buffs/nerfs

Seth
~no more jump HP
~air down+MK steps have weakened hitbox
~Ultra 1 is now "fireball-like" - can be deflected by other character's fireballs
~j.Fierce looks like he is doing a shoulder charge, similar to how his focus attack looks

T. Hawk
~now has a standalone EX Condor Dive (KKK), and can be done on back jumps
~U2 startup and hitbox are improved.
~St. FP has better properties which aren't known, either bigger hitbox or more priority

Vega
~Ex flip kick = viable reversal now.
~Less damage on ex wall dive grab.

Viper
~no new changes

Zangeif
~EX green hand no longer knocks down
~Defensive EX SPD beat out Attackers SPD after an EX Green Hand on hit
~Zangeif jab SPD range seems bigger, but the source says it could be eyes playing tricks
~Range on U2 increased, recovery also increased
- air hit box appears to be smaller
~standing lk hit priority is higher
~x gh still knocks down on counter hit
~lariat & k lariat hit priority are stronger
~short jump jumps shorter
~cr.lk link is back to 2 frame

2) More Alt. Costumes..while I know most people think 5-10$ for some more costumes are a rip-off, there are still some people who like them and Capcom is catering to them with a new pack of alternate costumes. Ever wanted to fight a Sagat with hair?? Fight Street Fighter Alpha Chun-li again? Or how about M. Bison in some more Gundam cosplay??

Ono-san, the head of the SF4 team, has stated that these costumes will make their way to the console version as DLC sometime around late fall(October-November).

And finally, and the most major update..

3) Yun and Yang...continuing their Super Street Fighter 4 tradition of adding in characters from Street Fighter 3, Capcom has added 2 more into the fray, the Lee brothers Yun and Yang. Each are to be included in the Arcade release(which will be this December), and might or might not be included within the console version as character DLC(it is so far undecided, but if it is, it will most likely be like the Blazblue:CS char. DLC). Each is apparently brought over faithfully from their 3rd Strike version along with new Ultras to match with the SF4 engine.

So with that news being said, the Arcade Edition might not mean that much to Street Fighter players, or most console owners(unless you live near a really big city), the console add-ons such as the proposed updates, the new DLC costumes, and the possible inclusion of 2 new characters to the roster might mean something. So, Escapists, do you have any opinions on any of this new info? or would any of the updates like this entice you to try and pick up the game? =]

So by "Arcade Edition", you mean an actual arcade cabinet, not yet another console update.

Whew. Just picked up Super Street Fighter IV on PS3, so I'd hate to think it had become obsolete already.

Yes, I mean an arcade cabinet version =P

..though most of the updates from it will come to your version of the game as either a patch or DLC.

I've heard alot of people complaining about the addition of Yun and Yang, to be honest I can't see the problem. From what I've read people are asking for characters that were uncommon and to me it makes a lot of sense to ass Yun at the very least but they were both involved in Chun Li's story so it does make sense. Hasn't there been rumours of more characters added as well though? Ono said he wanted to add Rolento and R.Mika has been knocked about as a possibility. As so far as the character balances go it seems there is a case of the nerf bug spreading in the game. And on the subject of the costumes, I'm a chun Li player and I've wanted the Alpha costume for a while.

Personally I'm really looking forward to the updates (If they make it to the console version). I just wish I didn't have to spend money on them.

Most people are fine with Yun being in the game, mostly because he was top tier in Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, they just don't like that Yang is included as well because people see him as a clone(even though he really isn't), and because of well..the opposite reason that they wanted Yun.

And yes, there has been speculation that more characters might be added, the highest up on that list are Alex, Rolento, R. Mika and Karin.

And I would enjoy all of these updates too =] but sadly, I only own the PC version of Street Fighter 4 and Capcom doesn't seem fit to release Super for the PC cause of all of the piracy or something, so I'll probably never see any of this =S

Mhmm, like I said, there is speculation on 4 more characters being added besides Yun and Yang, though I haven't heard anything about Charlie though. I'm all for him bring brought in, because more characters are always a good thing, but I don't really want to have to deal with him..I have enough problems with Guile already x-x

I'm just surprised no one has said anything else on here...I mean I know we have Street Fighter fans on here, as well as just casual players(from what I can tell from all the "Seth is super cheap" stuff), I thought there would be more interest in news like this =S

That's pretty great for SF fans, and I wouldn't mind picking it up myself. Unfortunately CAPCOM hates PC so unless this comes out for PC then no dice. I'm not a big SF fan but I'd certainly give it a shot, but I guess I won't be missing much.

*goes back to his Guilty Gear and Blazblue*

Unfortunately Aksys isn't a massive fan of the PC either, so only now do we get Calamity Trigger. Sad times.

I've heard a lot of names but I haven't heard Charlie mentioned at all to be honest. I don't know how they'd fit it into the story. Abel: "I thought you were dead?!"
Charlie: "No, I was just taking a nap."

If they were to do it I'd like them to actually think of something good.

One thing I've noticed about Seth though is that he is much different in arcade mode than he is in vs. He annoying but once you learn the pattern he's easy.

I too am shocked at lack of SF love here, there was a poll on fighters and there were very few people mentioning Street Fighter. It's quite odd considering it's one of the most popular fighters out there.

I wish I could get a clean shot of Rose's new outfit she just blurs by in that trailer. Capcom better not nerf her this time... I suffered through SFIV at low tier and I'm getting used to winning now :p

I had heard something like 6 new fighters for the Arcade release somewhere. I just hope they will be coming to SSFIV too. There's no arcades here anymore to play it there :(

Hopefully us console guys get this in December too.

Wasn't calamity trigger only released in like europe or something? I managed to obtain an arcade version of continuum shift and I have GG RELOAD on my computer, all through less than legal means (you try finding this stuff in stores!).

I wish they would release them here state side too because I'd definitely pay for that. Thankfully I got Calamity Trigger on my PSP and portable fighting is the win.

It was released everywhere, look on ebay and you'll find it. In fact I'm pretty sure they still have the special edition copies around too.

@Physics Engine http://www.eventhubs.com/images/2010/sep/13/concept-artwork-roses-new-alternative-costume-super-street-fighter-4/ It's not in game but it's still the best quality image you're bound to find. This is taken off eventhubs

? Rose's Ultra 2 (orbs) are no longer invincible, although it's up for debate as to exactly what this means. She supposedly has a faster Focus Attack as well.

That was reported back from the arcade test but that doesn't mean it's final though.

While nothing definite has been said about the character dlc I honestly can't see them not including them, we've bought ssf4 (even though it was at a discount) as an update to a game that already exists and I find it hard to believe that Capcom will leave us without they full version of it.

You can purchase Blazblue over GFWL, I believe. I dunno if it stop you or anything though if you aren't European settings..or something, I haven't tried it.

And...-searches though arcade update info-...

Rose's changes are...
Rose:
Satellites are not invincible anymore
That's all I got for her, hope that helps =o

EDIT:..dang it, I was ninja'd x-x

I was surprised how unexciting Yun and Yang are in SF4. At this point there are so many characters that it's not a welcome sight to see "oh yes, they moved this guy to polygons, he has all the same moves but slightly slower." I would rather have new characters with cool ideas, even if they don't pan out. (Juri and Hakan are standouts here.)

Actually, a new Street Fighter would get me super interested if they made Ultras easier to land. The problem with Sagat wasn't that his uppercut did too much damage, but that he was one of a handful of characters who can land an ultra off a reasonably useful attack.

Yea I checked and I was right, it's only for europe/UK and I don't want it so badly that I have to import it. Hell I'd be worried about the online community not being that big either. Ah well, is till have it for the PSP and my less than legitimate copy of Continuum Shift.

I thought so as well, but its pretty simple once you think about it. While Street Fighter started the fighting genre, and is extremely popular; it is also somewhat execution heavy which might steer people away from it...most of the time people want to look good and feel as if they are doing good with the most minimal of effort, which is why easier to get into fighters such as Smash Bros, Soul Calibur and others stand out a lot more.

I think so too, some newer characters with some more varied movesets(hopefully no more shotos), would be a nice change of pace..though I haven't even been able to try Hakan or Juri yet, so I can't say that much =S...sigh
