I thought Wolverine's costume was cool, the yellow and blue costume seems to allow him to fit well with other Marvel heroes and does seem to match his personality as a gruff, yet clever and skilled hero.

Many good character designers when making Superheroes, make them so that they let out a hero's characterization.

For instance: Darkman wears a load of bandages on his body, and trashy trenchcoat, and matching hat, it characterizes how he lost everything he had and was to being attacked by Durant and his gang and the result of his loss.

And Magneto wears red and purple tights, a fabulous cape, and a cool helmet, which from a certain viewpoint can symbolize his position as a leader in groups like the Mutant Brotherhood, once even the X-Men, if you can believe that.

Since Movie Bob talked about the Avengers in this weeks video I kinda thought I'd make this post about a thing that kinda bothers me in movie adaptations of superheroes:

Their costumes, or lack there of.

You wouldn't make a Batman movie without a take on the iconic Batman suit.
You wouldn't make Superman movie without the iconic Blue and Red With the big yellow S.

I could make that list a mile long, but here is where my problems come in.

Why is it that some movies seems to disregard the origins of the characters suits?

Looking at all the X-men movies and only three characters, that I can remember actually had a suit that was sort of like their comic character (Cyclops, Storm and Magneto). But yet Wolverine is the most wellknown X-man/Mutant of all the characters, and he gets nothing.

Isn't Wolverines costume as iconic as Spider-Mans costume?

What I want to discuss is when is it okey to disregard the costume? And what heroes do you, or don't you want to see in an adaptation of their original costumes?
Wolverine's costume is iconic as Spider-Man's but that's most because it's the icon of all retarded costumes. It wasn't that great, and he's as well known for his weird hairstyle as his costume. Oh, and the CLAWS.
Which one, the Gold/Blue one or Orange/Brown one?

Well, Wolverine has other defining features (claws, hair) and he had a silly outfit so they deemed it ok to change it and keep him recognisable. Besides, Spiderman's outfit suits him, I mean, with all the acrobatics and stuff, things would get in the way.

The point is, some costumes are just silly and unworkable, so actors and directors would much rather have something else if they can get away with it.

Yeah, like a tuxedo... you can't tell me he would go to a wedding without a tuxedo! Now all we need is a wedding situation. What about Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver?
Why would he be angry at a wedding?
No, the question is: why would he NOT be angry at a wedding? Or any other situation?

OT: It's ok to disregard costumes if they are ridiculous, like most of them are.
A good costume is one like Rorschach's (who I don't much like): cool.
A bad one is spandex.

Batman wears spandex in the comics and the old TV seires, but does he wear spandex in the new movies? No. But is it still Batmans costume? Yes.

Take the X-men movies for instance, they all wore leather, it worked ok, but could they have at least TRIED to acknowledged the characters a little more? Colors and such?

I'm still waiting for them to make a live action Batman Beyond.

But on topic, any costume that does away with the underwear on the outside of the pants is good enough for me!

Hugh Jackman...In yellow spandex..

Please.. Never Ever.

Not all costumes should stay the same, the Flash and Captain America, would look ridiculous in modern films.
While I agree on the No Jackman in Spandex thing, I think The Flash & Cap'n A. might look all right. I mean, how else are they supposed to look?

I am guessing that Cap might have the WW2 looking uniform only in the cap colors in the first movie, but he sure as hell will be in the normal flag costume in Avengers. Tone down the blue to a bit of a darker blue, and add some leather, and you are done :)

Also add spandex with some texture to it, and you might have something that works.

Both. Gold/Blue was cool enough, but pretty campy if you were to convert it to real life.

Orange/Brown, however, was just stupid. It was just a massive eyesore.

If teh movie is a disaster then I won't even remind myself about a twatty costume.
But most movies I saw about supers had original or plausible adaptations what I'm for.
About wolwerine - damn, claws and his hair is the most recognisible things about him and we should all be happy that he wasn't wearin' his costume.

I'm fine with changing the costume (or any lore for that matter) if it's stupid or laughable. And with old time heroes most of the time it is.

While I like Wolveriens original costume I could see people laughing at it. And in a "serious" super hero movie that's the last thing you want to happened when you see your hero in costume for the first time.

You can make a costume cooler while still keeping the iconic look. I mean, I know it's minimal, but Spiderman actually has small webs under his armpits in the comics. None of that bullshit in the movie (along with the web shooters thank god, that never made sense). They need to do something similar with the Captain America movie, even if they just change it to the Ultimate universe version.

Change the shield to back to round obviously but everything else fits, keeping the iconic look while making it more badass, useful and fitting the period.

Pretty sure they are doing that to Cap in "The First Avenger: Captain America" That is typically how he looked in the early (retconned) days of the 616 universe. That said, they have to give him the iconic cap suit for Avengers, just as they did in Ultimates.

Besides Cap doesn't wear all spandex, most of the suit is leather and scalemail.

PS: The costume I could see get a small change is the Bucky costume, those tight red pants with the loosfitting jacket doesn't work. I hope they just give him some red cargo pants.

But for the LOVE OF GOD! don't do the Ultimates thing with Bucky, just DON'T! Bucky HAS to die.

I'd rather see Jackman in yellow spandex than another Spider-man movie with that shitty rendition of his costume.

They better get rid of Thor's little winged hat/helmet thing. Maybe change it to look less.....I don't know, stupid? I know it's a classic and all, and I appreciate it in the comics, but it just wouldn't work in the movies. Maybe in his world, but while he's in our world.....
