Although I myself have never read comics i have always had a fascination with super heros. im 19 incase youre wondering so I grew up on the 90s cartoons so I ask the escapist

Who is your favorite super-hero and why?
Least favorite?
Do you prefer marvel or DC flavor?
Adding the same info about villains is also acceptable

My favorite is Spider-man as i think he is the most relate-able and balanced

least favorite is batman because hes literally just a rich insane person who snapped when he lost his parents and his shit is always lose first figh, buy suit enhancements, win 2nd time around

I highly prefer MARVEL because they show general character development

I will say my favorite villain is the Joker tho, DC gets props for him he is beautifully crafted close 2nd would be Magneto

I hope you don't get put on probation for that because it's one of the funniest comments I've seen on the escapist in a long time. Just thought I'd let you know.

Oh, OT:Batman because he's batman.

I've always liked Batman

But I'm not a huge comic book reader, so I don't get into the whole DC/Marvel thing. I know Superman and Batman are DC, and almost everything else seems to be Marvel :)

There's been a lot more Marvel movies recently, and the last Superman movie sucked, so from a movie standpoint, Marvel seem to be doing it better.

However The Dark Knight is one of the greatest movies of all time.

My vote is for Deadpool.
Seriously, people.
His Common-sense is much better than spidermans' Spider-sense

"Who is your favorite super-hero and why?"

Honestly, this is an honor I give to She-Hulk. She's just as funny, if not funnier than Deadpool.

"Least favorite?"

I don't really know, I'm sure if I thought harder about it my answer would be subject to change, but I think off the top of my head it's probably Cyclops from X-Men

"Do you prefer marvel or DC flavor?"

While I do enjoy a number of characters and stories from both, I would say my preferences do lean slightly more towards Marvel. They release a lot more books on a given week that I want to buy.

Thanks for the post TC, it was fun to think about this stuff for a moment.

Who is your favorite super-hero and why? - Goku. He never gets beaten. Even after death (which he accepted by his own will) he comes back to save the world. That and he trains non-stop, lives to fight and protect and is one hell of a martial artist.

Least favorite? - I don't really think I have a least favourite. I can see how each is awesome in their own special way. But if I had to I'd say either Dazzler or Cypher.

Do you prefer marvel or DC flavor? - Another though one, because it depends on my mood. They're very different reads I think. But overall I enjoy it when superheroes aren't being taken too seriously, so Marvel.

I like spiderman and batman. Also, batman isn't just some rich guy, there is a level of psychological depth in his character and he has a strong motivation to fight crime. This is something that is often lacking in many of superhero comics which often use the excuse of them having powers as the pretext for them wanting to fight crime.

In my opinion, Ironman (at least in the movie portrayal), seems to lack a strong motivation toward fighting crime and basically uses his wealth and playboy attitude as the pretext to fly around and blow stuff up.

You know, I always wonder why people act like you can't get a girl because you like nerd things. I mean, I am married to a beautiful woman and I am something of a super nerd, into almost every stereotypical nerd activity including video games, MMO's, comic books, and D&D. Never stopped me.

I guess that view holds some water in a high school setting where everyone is overly concerned with coolness.

The movie version doesnt really fight crime he just goes and attacks terrorists that have weapons with his company's seal on them because he doesnt want his shit used to harm innocents and because he was kidnapped by terrorists

The thing for me with batman is that hes almost as insane as the punisher, now his butler, alfred i think his name is, to me he shows the most character other than Joker, Alfred is willing to do anything for not his employer but his friend, even if that means sit back and watch him blow his entire fortune on a hate filled vendetta against all crime because of one moment that bruce refuses to accept and move on, as for the psychological depth im a psych major so i look for these things

Im willing to continue the debate if you are, note i said debate so im implying openess to eachother opinions because after all they are just opinions

sorry if i double post

See it turns out that most attractive women without narcissistic behaviors prefer nerdy guys because they tend to be sweet guys and more down to earth, thats what my best friend tells me at least, I on the other hand am very similar to Tony Stark without the tons of money or the suit. I just happen to have a secret super hero obsession

I've always liked Gambit and Thor is a close second in my book.

Gambit because I think out of all the mutants he uses his powers in the coolest ways, throwing cards, and he's the wild card, no pun intended.

Least favorite for me would have to be Captain America, I don't know why, but nothng he does appeals to me and I don't find any of his adevntures interesting.

I'm more of a Marvel fan than I am a DC fan, I like more of the super heroes in the Marvel universe than I do in DC, even though DC does have Batman.

Pick the guy too virginial to understand that there's plenty of girls who like the geeky types, at least once you're 18+. I've always been a comic geek, and I'm happily married, and never had difficulty with girlfriends/boyfriends when I was single. If anything, you stand out more, rather than being yet another meat-head who may as well be invisible.

OT: Unfortunately Alan Moore's work killed comics for me, because it was hard to go back to pop-comics, and there isn't really a lot else out there that really counts as literature in the same way that his work does. But I also wouldn't pick any of his characters as favourite hero - if it was 'most interesting' hero, or 'most analysable' hero', then I might say Manhattan or Ozymandas, but not favourite.

This guy isn't really a hero or a villain, but I thought that Shane had a great character arc in The Walking Dead (the comics, not the tv series). Difference between the comics and the tv series for that character was that in the comics he stays sympathetic right to the end of his arc, primarily because it becomes increasingly apparent that it isn't sexual jealousy that's turning him against Rick, but the idea that before Rick found them, he had a pre-made family (Rick's wife and kid) that gave him a purpose and meaning in life. He could bear to live through the collapse of society so long as he had that - without it, his attempt to kill Rick isn't so much an act of jealousy as of necessity; he literally cannot keep pushing himself onwards through the horror unless there's the prospect of something meaningful on the other side. Hence Shane's death (Rick's son shooting him to save Rick) is one of the most moving moments in the comic, and an awesome end to the first 'book' (of the 24-issue collector's hardbacks).

The TV series (while good in other ways) really kills that character arc by ramping up the sexual lust aspect (though in both versions he has had an affair with Lori when they thought Rick was dead) at the cost of the weightier themes, to the point where Shane attempts to rape Lori. That just destroyed the character for me - in the TV series he remains alive at the end of the first series, but he's lost all possibility of being sympathetic. It just makes him a much less interesting character - turns him from a sympathetic alternate hero, whose corruption reflects the comics wider themes about meaning, mortality and hope, into 'just another villain'.

Favourite Super-hero? I have many, top of the list is Gambit, Colossus, Punisher, Dr. Strange. Dr. Strange is awesome. (The Sentry or The Hulk are just way overpowered if you feel like reading up on them)

Least favourite? Superman kinda but I never really got into DC to know how fleshed out he is (he always seemed OP at a cursory glance). Probably Hank Pym. The guy is just a dick who needs to sort out his problems.

Favourite villain? Venom maybe. Nitro is kinda cool. Carnage is kinda cool as well. Purple Man, for his personality more than his abilities.

Least favourite? hmmmmmm Thunderbolt Ross I guess.

I enjoy Marvel a lot more.

Favorite super hero: Tough one. There are so many awesome super heroes. Batman jumps to mind for immediate favorite, but Green Lantern gets an honorable mention for the cool way his powers work and the oath.

Least Favorite Hero: Superman. Not because he is lame himself, but because no one can really do anything good with him. There are a few really good things, like Red Son, but most of the superman stuff is just boring.

I personally prefer DC, I don't really know why. I don't really care between the two, though. I read the good stuff.

Best Villain: This is kind of a cheat, but I think they have a sufficiently comic booky feel that they can count: The Borg as they appear in TNG (voyager kind of ruined the concept.) I would love to see a comic book about the Borg.

Worst Villain: There have been some crap villains over the years. Hard to narrow it down. Probably MODOK. I have never really read a comic with him in it, but I just can't get over how stupid he looks.
