"smart" phones. only as smart as the user. I hate those things. I need my phone to be one thing and one thing only: a PHONE!
My sentiment exactly. I hate it how some people look at me strange when I bring out my old Sony-Ericsson to make a call. It's like "Why are you using that old junk? You can't even watch movies or play 3D games on it!" Well gee, maybe I don't want to watch movies and play games on my phone. I want to talk to people. Why did phones being used for what they were designed for suddenly became weird...?

tablets, ipads, and even laptops. I like by big clunky desktop thank you very much. Well when it isn't being old and slow and making me ctrl-alt-del constantly.
I am less enthusiastic about this one. I don't even have a PC, I use my laptop for everything, from writing to gaming, and I also have a very cheap tablet so that I can read or browse the net when I'm out somewhere where the laptop would be cumbersome.

some have said social media: facebook twitter etc. I will take it one step further. That s**t can go swallow razorwire, pull it out its arse and floss itself to death as far as I'm concerned.
This, on the other hand, I 200% agree. I hate that social media is practically an institutionalized privacy-killer, allowing employers and even strangers to stalk and "gather dirt" on people without any consequences while 90% of the population is completely okay with that. It's just insane.

As for the e-books a lot of people are mentioning... Honestly, I actually prefer them over normal books. Maybe because I have no stereoscopic vision, or because I got really used to TFT screens, but for me reading on a screen with a back-light is actually more comfortable than reading an actual book, not to mention much less cumbersome.

The iPad, or anything similar to it. It's not as big as the laptop to comfortably manage and type. Do we remember the days of typing back in freaking 2006? It's not as small as a smart phone, so it does the same thing but is less portable and it can't handle what a laptop can handle. Useless. Just use a laptop, or wait a few months to get one instead of the iPad.

Anything with a new interface made to look high tech and unique rather than being boring and generic and being easy to use.

I've always been resistant to technology. I still burn music to CDs, will buy VHS if it's an option, still have a flip phone, & didn't switch to flat panel monitors & TVs until CRTs were getting impossible to find.I resisted CDs & DVDs well into the mid 2000s. When windows 8 came out, I upgraded from XP to 7.

To clarify, Roll20 is a virtual tabletop with a variety of tools to allow people to play RPGs like D&D online. It's by no means a bad service, but quite frankly there's nothing like being in the same room with a good group and having a jolly good time.
I'll second this. I long for the days of 6 hour DnD sessions fueled by pizza and beers.....sadly, they are behind me now.

This. So. Much.

I think the smart phones are actually making us more stupid and introverted. Social interaction is dying with people staring at their phones all the time.
I rue the day I was forced to change my good old Nokia with buttons and such into a smart phone.
You are mistaking introverted for anti-social. I'm an introvert but what that means is that, while I do enjoy time alone and I don't have numerous 'friends' like you extroverts, I have a few friends who I deeply enjoy having deep conversations with. None of that horrible small talk.
I'm not striking at you, it just greatly annoys me when someone mixes up the two and instead sees introverts as some sort of social disorder or something.

OP
I'm definitely there with needing physical books over digital.
But to go with something people haven't mention yet I would say automatic transmission. I love manual transmissions to the point that I can barely stand driving the family Honda Pilot. I also can't stand Jeep Wranglers with 4 doors instead of just 2. Who needs those other two doors? In fact, who needs doors on a wrangler?!

I HATE CGI and 3d animation.
I'd go one step further and say bring back hand painted cells.

As soon as what little traditional animation was left went digital, it lost a lot of its warmth and texture. Now we have anime that looks flat and sterile.
This, so much this. While I do enjoy the odd CGI, it has just gone too far.
I really miss the hand crafted props and hand drawn animations. It's actually a bit strange when you think about it, that we now have "hand drawn" as a big feature, while earlyer that was the only thing we had.
Guess people just don't have time for that anymore.

Other than that, I really dislike fragile technology. As it gets better, faster and more flashy/stylish, it comes at a high durability cost.
What good is it that it can do all these things if it stops working if you just look at it the wrong way? My old phone has lasted many years now, it's been in water countless times, hit concrete floor from several meters up and generally get's punished on a daily basis, and it still works! I also just have to charge it twice a week, even when using it as a mp3 player/radio up to 6 hours a day. Show me a smartphone that can do that.
My mom has a 25 year old micro that still is in daily use.

New tech may make your day to day life easier, but only as long as it works, which is not that long. And then you have to get a new one or fix it.

I HATE CGI and 3d animation. They aren't necessarily bad in themselves, but I always found that practical effects looked more realistic.
I have to agree with you here. We are now in a time where if CGI can be used, CGI will be used. In the case of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit links that you posted, it is pretty easy to spot that the orcs in The Hobbit are CG whereas those in the Lord of the Rings are makeup, and as a result, the orcs in the Lord of the Rings look a lot more threatening and rough, whereas in the Hobbit they too look clean and look like a cartoon. I understand that practical effects cannot be used for everything, sure, it may me difficult to make a dragon fly over a city, or have a fight scene two giant robots in a populated city, but CGI ages pretty badly, and practical effects done right never gets old. Hell, I watched Aliens yesterday, and if the film was made today, I can pretty much guarantee that everything but the colonial marines, Ripley and Newt would have been CG. It is also really sad when you watch a 'behind the scenes' special of the film, and it is the actors in costume on a green set, covered in green boxes, with a guy running around in a MoCap suit.

OT: Windows 8. I care very little for your stupid squares Microsoft. Windows had had the same design for a good decade or so, so don't decide to change it for the benefit of that one person with the touchscreen monitor.

The 'gritty, grimy, more realistic and grounded' look. Thanks for the greys and browns. I really do hate colour, and the different shades of dark colours such as the aforementioned greys and browns really helps with my immersion. /sarcasm

"Dislike" is a strong word, but like several other posters here I don't care for smartphones. Too fickle for my tastes, and the costs can really rack up if you're not careful.

I valiantly defended the N64 and the Gamecube, on forums and in school, even though they were inferior to PS1 and 2 in terms of games. And how does Nintendo reward my loyalty? Fucking motion controls. I could not wrap my head around how waving that thing around would be even remotely fun, as opposed to twiddling my thumbs on a gamepad. I never wanted a Wii.

I abandoned Nintendo, and even console gaming for several years, until I got an X360 as birthday present. Ever since then I've not held sides, I believe that all sides (except Nintendo) has its merits and good games,
It's not uncommon for the most fiercely devoted fans to become the fiercest detractors once their beloved artist/company/whatever (all but inevitably) disappoints them, and they seldom realize that replacing blind fanboyism with blind hatred is little more than overcompensation under the guise of "wisening up".

I also prefer books to ebooks, though sometimes I have to buy ebooks because I'm poor.

3D-it adds nothing to the experience and costs like $5

blue ray. Basically the same as 3D. It's not perceptibly better than dvd, and it costs so much more.

I hate online gaming or having to hook a consol to the internet just to play a game. I hate waiting for updates, i just wanna play my damn game. I dont like DLC, that stuff should already be on the disc as unlockables to make you earn it, not pay for it. And most of all, I just want my game on my disc, thats it. Thats all I should have to pay for. I shouldn't have to keep paying, whether through internet or subscriptions. Otherwise I may as well just rent the damn thing.

I also noticed a few people mention CGI. Overated & overused. I miss stop motion & claymation, & puppets. The series Farscape did awesome work with this. And the demon at the end of the Golden child still looks freakier than anything computer generated these days. It's a lost art.

And lastly, to combine the two, graphics. Game developers these days are compromising game play & story for graphics. A good game with basic graphics (8 or 16 bits) is still playable (go look on newgrounds). A crap game with awesome graphics is not.

I do tend to agree but there's a kind of uncanny valley effect here. I do most of my computing using a succession of cheap second hand laptops because I'm a sysadmin and tend to offload processor intensive tasks to one of our servers. These days I look for a good keyboard, a trackpoint, resilient hardware and a low price. When I'm away from the office it does everything I need it to do in good time, in fact the last upgrade I bought wasn't necessary as I've seen no speed increase over my older machine.

Membrane switches.

I hate these damn things. They're too finicky and they're impossible to fix when they inevitably break. At least with a physical switch you can pull it out and replace it.

Earbuds, charger cables...just thin wires in general. These things break and wear out far too quickly and easily, barely lasting over few months in some cases. the amount of earbuds I go through at ~20 pounds a piece is shocking.

Thicker cables! they're much more durable and last longer!

I would not go so far as to say I hate CGI animations themselves, but I do sincerely hate their general overuse. And your examples where great to illustrate that point.

Relatively little CGI, combined with heavy reliance on practical effects and costumes, makes the battle of Helms Deep look epic and still impressive to this day.
Shitloads of CGI makes the dwarves escape look like a pre-rendered cutscene from a video game, and already dated.

Maybe I'm just denying my hatred, but I wouldn't say I hate Nintendo. I get a bit riled up when thinking about it, because I had a lot of fun with the Nintendo consoles. I did feel betrayed, but the feeling of disappointment didn't last, very quickly I just didn't care much any more. I don't know why it didn't occur to me at the time that I could just switch sides, and buy one of the other consoles. Such is life, I guess.
