No surgery my self, thankfully. But my brother did have to get some because he literaly got his testicles in a twist. We had some good fun with that, once we knew he was going to be fine.

I don't remember much but I had some surgery on my mouth when I was younger. I just remember them telling me to breathe the gas and that it would taste good. It didn't and I felt weak so I got scared and started to punch and kick the doctors. I ripped that damn mask off my face 3 times before the gas made me weak enough for them to hold down. Then I was out.
After I woke up I puked blood a lot and passed out every few minutes. Not fun at all.
I was a fighter at 3 or 4 or whenever the hell that happened.

The only surgery that I have ever had was getting my wisdom teeth removed. It was something else.

I recall looking up at the dentist's fingers and seeing blood on his gloves. All I thought was: "That's disconcerting." Then went back to looking at the TV in the ceiling that was off because I was so high on anesthesia.

When all was said and done I remember having to wait on my dad who was getting his teeth cleaned. The funny part is that he went in before I even did. Even with the warnings and the actual surgery to remove four boney impacted wisdom teeth I was still done first. Apparently my doctor specialized in removing wisdom teeth and could do it really fast.

I remember not even being able to speak as my tongue was so numb that I couldn't even move it. Made it annoying when I held a door open for someone and wasn't able to reply to them.

And then I went and got some medicine that I needed to take. And when I took the pills, I thought they were a bit bigger than I had seen (still pretty large). Feeling around in my mouth, I realized that I had swallowed the gauze. My mom, who worked there, told the doctor this and apparently, despite her assuring me it probably happened all the time, he had never heard of anyone doing that.

So knock on wood that I don't have anymore anytime, soon.

That thing attached to your ass is called a "WoundVac", and it's there not to keep the wound clean, it's there to avoid the issue you had while the wound didn't heal... an infection.
It's actually to promote healing. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy is used to enhance the healing process. Preventing infection is a byproduct of the level of care used and the speed of healing.

Does getting stitches count? 'cause other than that, I've never had surgery. Knew a few people that did, and quite frankly, I'm surprised that number isn't higher (you expect stuff like that to happen when you know people that do stupid things such as making their own snowboard and deciding to test it out on the roof of the house).

I had a tonsillectomy about two weeks ago. Since I am not a kid, it was fairly painful. Spent one night at the hospital, getting 4mg of morphine shot directly into my bloodstream every 4-5 hours. To top things off, I also had one hell of a migraine. (Probably triggered from the morphine).

On a fun note, I can now compare my migraines to getting my tonsils removed. And I can honestly say, I'd rather have my tonsils yanked out again, then go through another of those migraines :p

I had a surgery on my throat in berlin. my mother and me traveled there a day before to be able to be at the hospitals station at 7am. well I got a room and a bed that early, but I had to wait till after 10 to get down to the surgery room. actually i even had to wait infront of it for about 45 mins more while they tried to get one of my veins which werent cooperating due to dehydration. the surgery was fine, when i woke up I spoke english first and they told me its normal to speak ones mother tongue first... Im born in germany and my mothertongue is german aswell...
pain wa alright also due to painkillers, just I didnt get much rest as there was way too much trouble on the station where my room was.
At night i got visited by an eldery confused patient who simply sat down at the foot end of my bed. I couldnt sleep anyways but the loud boom which which he kicked open the door certain ripped me from any slumber.
So I go to search a nurse. find one and we find that old guy sleeping in my bed.
I get a new bed, its neat and has a remote to change its positions.
my roommate snores terrible the next night and I dont sleep again. luckily I only had to stay two nights and back home I got some good rest and finally started to recover.

Good God, where to start?
At the beginning.

Had my tonsils out.
Had a mutant tooth that pushed my upper teeth apart removed.
Few more surgeries to remove other mutant teeth.
Six years of dental engineering to get me to the point where I could get braces.

Cross-linking.
*Warning. Graphic details*
I have this condition where my corneas slowly become cone-shaped. One of them was beyond saving, but the other one they were able to save with a procedure called a cross-linking. If you've had a filling, they fill your tooth with this substance that hardens when exposed to ultraviolet light. Cross-linking is kind of like that, but on your eye. They freeze your eye, then they clamp it open, and scrape off some of the surface with an electric toothbrush. (I'm not even kidding). Then, they put calcium drops in and shine ultraviolet light on it, causing my cornea to harden and stopping it from deforming further. I was awake for the whole thing.

Cornea Transplant.
*More graphic details*
They sedate the fuck out of me. Then, they jab a needle into my eye socket and freeze the optic nerve. After that, they cut out the old cornea, and stitch in a new one. I was also awake for the whole thing.

Mutant Teeth III: Wisdom Teeth
I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. One of them was hooked into my jaw, and the other was dangerously close to my tongue nerve. I had to be put under for that.

I'm also looking at getting a vasectomy, and maybe something done for my knee. At any rate, I'm a connoisseur of surgery.

I've never had surgery, but I probably will eventually for my ankles. They're biologically fucked up as it is and being a runner doesn't help.

I had a surgery to fix my chest that had grown inwards a few weeks ago. They put a iron bar behind my ribs so that it would be corrected. I was acting like a real tough guy before and after the surgery because it didn't hurt. But on my third day in the hospital I could feel the pain because the painkillers had worn off. I cried like a ***** for the next two days. That was easily the most painful experience in my life. Good that it's over, even though I still have back-pains if I sit down for too long. I'm just glad that I'm in Finland because the whole procedure cost under a hundred euros. I also got the best surgeon in the country to operate on me!

I've also had to get my appendix out, when I was 10. The pain actually started a good week before it became worse, at a school camp. Everyone thought I was just being pathetic or needed the toilet, and then it went away. The next week it came back, and I had to lie across my chair on my stomach to alleviate the pain (appendicitis pain is released with pressure, you see). My parents took me in to the doctors that night, the doctor confirmed straight away my appendix was playing up (I recall he was testing by trying to distract me by making me tell a story while pressing on my abdomen to see if it hurt when it released the pressure). I was taken into hospital, where they kept me for a few hours in this ghastly child's ward with bright colours and cartoon characters. They gave me some sort of drug which made me throw up and laugh myself silly, and then into surgery. I woke up with no memory and had to be reminded where I was (good old anaesthesia) and stayed there for a few days before leaving.

I remember being disappointed because my class were going to do get well soon cards, but I got out too soon. My appendix was apparently about to burst, so it was more infected than yours (probably because it took a good week to get worse).

I like your prose, OP :)

I've only had one surgery - the result of me slipping on a winter's morning on my way to elementary school and breaking my wrist, but it has lead to a kind of haunting memory. The memory of waking up during the procedure of removing the steel nail from my arm, with nurses frantically renewing the anaesthetization and doctors telling me to not look at the bloody mess bottom right of my POV but instead focus on the monitor above showing some kind of pliers slipping off again and again and excruciatingly pounding pain with every attempt. Yeah. I don't actually know whether this happened or I dreamt it but I do know that my impression of it is outstandingly vivid. The relatively messy scar that since then has travelled towards the back of my hand doesn't exactly help in disapproving my theory that something didn't exactly go right.

The only surgery ive had was having my wisdom teeth removed. I had 5 teeth out all together. One of my wisdom teeth grew out sideways along my gum line and caused an impacted molar. I was slightly nervous since it was my first general anesthetic but all in all it wasnt a horrible experience. I had a bet going with my surgeon that I could successfully count back from 20 before it kicked it. I made it to 17 then lights out.
Next thing I remember was waking up in recovery with my mouth covered in gauze. The first thing you tell yourself it dont tongue the stitches.....so of course I tongued the stitches....fucking negative suggestion!

It actually only took a couple of days to heal to the point where I was on solid foods again. The surgeon did a fantastic job.

Last thing to have cut off was a polyp of my eyelid. That wasnt so bad except the doctor was older than Davros and the cut wouldnt stop bleeding. That will teach me to not take aspirin the day before.

This is true....I think..

...aaaaaaaand what surgery story would be complete without complications?

There's nothing wrong with my incisions. Quite the contrary, I'm getting around quite well and I think I could shower normally now.

To put it bluntly, I haven't had a good poop since the day I went to the hospital. I think lying motionless, eating nothing, and being dehydrated for that long a time caused things to set up. Not sure how I could have prevented this. You can't move when you hurt that bad, you have no appetite when you're sick, and they don't allow you to eat or drink before surgery anyway.

I've eaten almost normally since returning home -- five days now -- but have not had a satisfactory movement.

I am on a massive dose of laxatives which after 7 hours has yet to yield results. I remain hopeful, but if things have not improved by noon tomorrow, it's back to the ER I go.

After I was under general anaesthetic a nurse came in and touched the floor then went to adjust my drip (fiddle with my needles) and my dad had to stop her and make her wash her hands.

Dodged that MRSA bullet...
