Well, I just woke up to find that the right side of my mouth is covered with hives from an allergic reaction apparently brought on by my dental rubber bands. The strange thing is that I've had to wear those things for over a year now, and had never shown any signs of an allergy until today.
Anyone else ever been taken by surprise after having an allergic reaction to something you distinctly remember not being allergic to in the recent past?

Oh hell yes, a few years ago I had a random case of SUDDENLY. HAY FEVER.

I never had any hay fever issues, but when I rode the train to school, and at one point I suddenly started sneezing, got really puffy and itchy eyes and an itchy throat. And when the train arrived it started going away again. Pretty random.

I've had several unexplained allergic reactions in the past. No idea what I'm allergic to because I can't think of anything the reactions had in common.

I should probably find out but...meh... I'm not dead yet.

Lock jaw. My jaw pulling to the side and grinding my teeth together. It was like it was trying to tear itself off of my face. Then I had trouble breathing. Had to call 911 and everything.

uhh lockjaw is not an allergy symptom

that's a symptom of the disease tetanus which is contracted via open wounds that get infected
(which is you should always clean wounds and bandage them)

I broke out in hives from meds once and another time all the skin on my arms turned blotchy red it turned out to be from soap

OMG same.

I had something similar last month.
Was coming back from having won something in a nearby town. We decided to pop into the garden centre to buy victory plants. SUDDENLY - HAY FEVER.
I was actually blinded and couldn't see for a good hour, due to the itchy red soreness in my eyes. Likely it was a particular plant at the centre that had triggered it, I guess.

I also have a curious allergy to sticking plasters. Yes, even the supposed "non-allergenic" ones, before you ask. o_O

Red dye, mainly Red 40. I used to eat foods with Red Dye all the time, but sometime ago I started to get these weird puffy white splotches on my arm. Apparently it's inherited.

Not me personally (Well, hayfever is hardly surprising at any rate) but my dad has an allergy that prevents him from using elastoplast.

I once stepped on a wasp nest in the ground, and got around six stings. No immediate reaction except a little swelling, but at night...

suddenly, shivers. Strong shivers

Some allergies you have to build up. I have the same thing with tape, or actually the glue. I could use it just fine for years until I noticed an itch and saw my skin covered with red lumps.
