Twilight sold a million copies in two and a half years. Making it the fastest selling book ever.

So? There's a lot of people willing to buy what they're told to buy - whatever state it's in.
Well I would imagine the state of the book would make a difference I mean I would imagine most would want it in good condition would they not?

Forgive me for feeling at least a little depressed.

As I am not even a first person shooter fan and many games I love did horribly.
I hear ya my favurite genere is next to dead.

Anyways, I wish for a day without DLC......
That will never happen now. DLC is a games way of staying fresh and interesting so it doesn't get lost and forgotten the following month from the 20 other games released at the same time.
Look at Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I doubt they would have been nearly as popular as they are without their DLC. CoD even more so, so it can keep things fresh with new MP maps so people don't get bored with the stock ones.

Say what you like about DLC, but it's here to stay.

How the hell did the shift that many copies of what is arguably a game that is the same or worse then other fps rivals? Then to add to it all, they manage to sell vast numbers of dlc.
Well hats of to their marketing team but yeash, people need to start reasoning their purchases before so readily handing cash over to someone else.
Yes. You've got it, the only reason anyone ever buys Call of Duty is the marketing. Everyone is simply fooled year after year, there's no way people just like things you don't, right? There's no way the Call of Duty games have a dedicated community and level of polish exhibited by few other games, right?

Yeah, that marketing team is fucking stellar, and the only reason anyone ever buys call of duty.

Please enlighten everyone then to why so many people have bought the series?
Is it for the short/shortest fps campaigns?
The step backwards to player hosted matches?
The lag?
The unbalanced weapons?
The inability to choose maps?

Which is it because I am failing to see any polish with these games........just stellar marketing.

For one thing, complaining about the length of CoD campaigns is silly. A cod campaign is supposed to be near constant action with crazy set pieces and shit, and keeping that pace up for hours would become boring. It's essentially a non stop action movie, and there's a reason those are usually ninety minutes.

There's not really a point in continuing this discussion, because you're convinced the game sucks, which is fine. It's just ridiculous to assert that the same people continually buy games from the series solely because of quality marketing.

Well it is amazing how they managed to achieve length beforehand without it becoming boring. This just sounds like you are trying to justify to yourself why you bought something half baked rather then why the devs became lazy.

LOL!
Oh come on now.
I say those fair points and you give up?
Well I guess you proved my previous post right - the games sell on marketing and being the 'pop' game rather then it being made of any substance.
Otherwise why do they sell?

MW2 oddly still has better numbers playing on steam, despite it being the inferior game, especially on PC.
I wouldn't say it's inferior, just that its balance is broken as hell. And sometimes, that's all people want.
Mostly referring (Yes partly) to the imbalance, lack of FoV, console, lack of server browser. I really genuinely do regard deliberately imbalanced games to be inferior to ones that try to keep balance and offer you plenty of choices.
I wasn't saying that you had to like it, I was just justifying the larger player-base. As in, more people play it because most of them don't give a shit and will happily play an imbalanced game for teh lulz.

I never "proved" your point because your "point" is ridiculous. You want an answer? The games are fun, they're very replayable and addicting, and it's easy to kill a few hours with friends on multiplayer. Battlefield is the only truly series console contender in the same genre, and that offers a rather different experience that a CoD player may not enjoy, and you can't have groups of more than four people due to the squad system.

Also, "lol!"? What are you, twelve? The implication that I'm somehow "justifying" my puchase is cute, too. I'm not saying CoD is some paragon of quality that all games should aspire too, it's just obviously worth it to millions of people, just not you. That doesn't at all make you better or smarter, and for the last fucking time it isn't solely due to marketing. Marketing plays an important part, yes, but to say it's the sole reason is ridiculous.

Again, you have proven my point that people buy games over marketing.
You go into no detail as to why it is fun etc, just that "it is" followed by slogans and terms you would find on the back of the box.
So unless you can explain to me why the points I previously listed are negated in this game compared to all the other fps rivals, then yes, it soled such vast numbers purely due to marketing.

Fuck it. They sell because they're fun, both with and without friends. The mechanics of the leveling system are designed to add replayability, and it's designed so that even if you're shit there's still enough flashing point totals and level ups to stay interesting. And by the time it wears thin, a new one is on the horizon.

No one is forcing cod fans to buy these, the older ones are still popular. Obviously, if it wasn't worth it to them, the series wouldn't do so well. You don't like it. Congratulations, that means absolutely nothing. I get that you don't like cod games, so why do you keep having to prove it?

Also, lol? What are you, twelve? In all caps, no less. And the assertion that I'm trying to justify my purchase is cute too. Contrary to what you may believe, people aren't stupid, they aren't "fooled" every year by the marketing. Marketing might bring in new fans and inform old ones of the new game, but it isn't the sole reason for sales.

So it is fun because you can grind in an fps for levels?

How is a new one fun? It is the same game! Unless you are admitting that you play the game solely because you can grind in it.

I think you made it clear that the fans buy the game because they want an fps in which they can grind rather than a game which is fun.

The notion that people buy an fps to grind at it and then claim it to be fun is most likely due to good marketing aimed at a young player base who are not very able to explain their actions or motives.

Activision is the McDonald's of the video game world, providing a product that, when you really critique it, is nothing really special, but it has the sort of mass market appeal to rake in the millions worldwide.
