I was hoping maybe somebody would know what I'm looking for based off this description of this game. I haven't been able to find this game again, since I first played the demo on STEAM. Now that I have a new computer, I haven't bothered getting STEAM or anything else for that matter. But about two years ago I tried out an FPS game that seemingly took place in the WWII time frame. The demo was this:

You are taken into the back of an underground bunker within what seems to be military fortress, beaten down by what look like Nazi's. When you come to, there's an explosion and horrific noises coming outside, as well as gunfire. You recover, kill whatever guards are attacking you, and make your way from the bunker outside. On your way, everything's getting more eery and you'd probably start to notice a lot of the soldiers have already been killed but are still trying to kill you. Outside there is a specter behind it all and you are forced to find a way to kill it...which takes forever, and is quite tedious to do...
You have some mission to tell some guy that was mentioned as you were being carried into the bunker in the begging that something demonic happened and make some statement after killing the specter that you have to stop whatever is happening (I believe)...as a triggered event, you're able to go through a door now, inside into a facility. The deeper you get the more it looks like a research facility. At the end of the demo, you're in a giant red room with specters and...if I remember correctly, a portal of some sort.

This was some time ago, so some of these details might be slightly off, but as far as I can tell, it's enough to identify it. Why I ask is because it's actually good. Challenging in most respects since, until you kill the specters, I believe any soldier you slay will only be reanimated again and again. It's actually pretty scary too. If anybody has a clue about what game I'm talking about, I'd greatly appreciate it if they'd post it to let me know.

Thanks. And hi. I'm new...

Wild guess: Wolfenstein

Obvious choice, and probably wrong.

More details?

Welcome, by the way.

I have to second that guess, Wolfenstein is about the only supernatural game with a WWII setting.

The only other game I can think of is UberSoldier, and I don't remember that one being very supernatural at all from the demo I remember playing of it. If you can remember being able to deploy a shield around yourself that would block bullets, it's that.

Also, when you say survival horror FPS, I would think that you were referring to either the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series or Metro 2033.

You might like those games, although none of them is set in WWII.

No, but I do recall that the guy sounded insane, since whenever you blew off somebody's head or stabbed them to "death" with your bayonet, you made some snarky remark or shouted "Die, you blood thirsty bastards!" or something to the extent of. I think you were granted a special ability of a sort. Like that of the one in BioShock but not so much. I believe you could shoot fire from your hand or something. Or when your health dropped low enough your screen would get all hazy and everything was absolutely irresolute, and you'd go berserk until you were got more health (generally by killing enemies).
It was more like if Painkiller, Wolfenstein, and BioShock all got together for a satanic blood orgy and one of them got pregnant with this.

I guess there's one more detail that could help...specters that got too close screwed up your screen and as they pass through you or throw whatever ball of light at you your vision is impaired for a second...as well as a good portion of your health taken away...

That's really the most specific I can get. Sorry if it's not enough and thanks for helping again. It really was a good game for what I did play of it. It could be that it was exclusive to STEAM though...didn't think of that...man that would suck...

Maybe Necrovision?

"NecroVision is a first-person shooter that takes gamers across the frantic battlegrounds of World War I and into a dark underworld of vampires, demons and dark magic." - Steam.

Aha! Just looked that up on youtube.com because it sounded familiar and viola! That was it! Very good.
I figured I'd give the game another shot since I'm off of work today, but have been hard pressed on finding it.

Thanks for that, yo.

Metro 2033 is pretty close to be a Survival Horror FPS, it brings some good scares and it's pretty good all around.

The entire S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series can give you the willies, in fact, this may be a Survival Horror FPS in it's purest form and name.

F.E.A.R. comes to mind too and it's also quite cheap, $9 for both Fear 1 + expansions and Fear 2 + DLC.

If you're not looking speciffically for a first person "shooter", then both Penumbra and Amnesia are the most frightening games I've ever played in my life, especially Amnesia. They're First Person Adventure games, you won't use any weapons (Amnesia), or at least the weapon system is very clunky (Penumbra) and just not worth to use it. Both are made by the same developers at Frictional Games, both are awesome (especially Amnesia) and, as Yahtzee himself said, they know how to scare the shit out of you. Or something like that.

Edit: Oops, my bad for not reading the entire post. Well... yeah, it may be Necrovision :3

I recommend Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of The Earth
While it does have its fair share of bugs, it is quite wonderful in the horror sense.

Lovecraftian games have always had a place in my heart. I'll check that one out. Quake is my all time favorite mindless killing game, which was all about Lovecraft.

Thanks again. Glad I found the game. Now the next task is to find it in stores.

@jcox2820

In my opinion, it was amazing. It keeps you on your feet, that's for sure. I might have just sucked at it, but it was very fun and very challenging.

I guess you have your answer but having never played any of those games or my guess, which is pain killer, I would never have got it.

Damn, I do like a good thinking like this.

Yeah, just one thing, I broke down and downloaded the demo and remembered how fucked the controls are. Again, maybe I just suck, but apart from how clunky the HUD is for just plainly switching a weapon...it's pretty entertaining. Still good, just a bit annoying.
