I find with a lot of survival horror games that they fail to evoke a lot of fear in me, I mean sure, its fun and scary when you're being chased and you're avoiding being killed by monsters, but the a monster hits you or bites you or something, and you take damage, then you pull one of those, if I may quote Yahtzee, Press X not to die moments, and suddenly, the game has become a rather mediocre hack n' slash with limited resources. Meanwhile, your inept companions are being devoured and I have to drag them around by the collar throughout the whole game because they're important to the story when I'd really just like to sacrifice their asses so I can escape. Really, what I'm complaining about is that survival horror monsters aren't like their movie counterparts. I realize that in movies someone can die and its part of the story it makes the experience scarier. And while I do realize that any survival horror game that had mostly monsters whose attacks counted as one hit kills as movie monsters often do, the whole game would be cheap, frustrating, and I'd probably throw my controller about half way through the game. That said, it kinda cheapens the experience when you realize that no matter how many times that guy with claws pulls a move that would eviscerate you in real life, you can tap a button and heal your self with a convenient "med pack". And by the way, I realize you can't actually do that seeing as med-packs are in short supply and thats what makes survival horror games survival-y, but I suppose I'm still just a purist in that respect. All said though, I'm really optimistic about this new resident evil game and Valve's Left 4 Dead. Survival Horror multiplayer co-op is something we haven't seen a lot of and I'm practically drooling over what looks from the demos and press releases to be a competent AI partner in RE
