Sweden: The Thread

I might be going to sweden later in life.

I want to work at DICE. The only EA company I want to work t mind you.

That being said they have kick ass internet.

DICE and Digital Illusions = Same thing just wanted to point that out... lol

I don't have anything against swedes but sucks to be its neighbor country. We Finns have to learn their goddamn language just cause some (5% as said) of their folk lives here and 'cause they ruled us for a pretty damn long time.

Well, I'm learning Finnish, and it's no picnic either; 15 different cases, lolwut?

Reasons why I hate Sweden:

1. Swedish army is now legally able to listen and record every single international phone call I make, and also most of my internet activities, and I don't even live in Sweden.

2. Swedes brought christianity to my country and destroyed the native religion.

3. Swedes try to take our inventions and pass them out as theirs (sauna is a good example)

4. We have a very small minority of Swedes (5%), but still they have a political party, official language and other priviliges that cost a lot to the goverment. Also note that 99% of those Swedes can speak our language very well.

Oh, and if it is not clear from that, I'm Finnish.

@Sayvara : Sorry that I can't answer your reply, however I am infact not that very good at politics.
Although the posts you did above my other posts did make me feel a bit more private.

2. Mjeh, Christianity was bound to get there sooner or later no matter what country had ruled you. Personally I'd prefer to be godless, religion is just a waste of time in my honest opinion :/
You can probably still enjoy reading the stories the religions had to offer, personally I like the old greek religion.

3. We don't bloody care that the sauna is your invention, what we care about is that it's a good invention. I am fully aware that the sauna is your invention, good for you.
Did you know what peanut butter was invented by a black man?

4. Try to see Sweden as a part of your history rather than "The country who owned us".
We're not "The country who owned you" we're "The country you were a part of".
Also what do you mean that they can't speak your language well?
Maybe it's an accent thing?
The swedish-english accent is bloody horrible for example, it does however not mean that they can't speak the language well... they just sound horrible while doing it.

Heh I agree, for a non-finnish person the language is really, really hard. Its the same thing prepositions in Swedish, they are fucking insane, but what i meant with the studying thingy is that its a must. I Sweden its not necessary to learn Finnish. In Finland learning Swedish is not an option its a must.

Well, being the only nation in the world that hasn't fought a war for almost 200 years is one of our bigger claims to fame. A pretty unique achivement (although we've obviously been very, very fortunate to avoid invasion at certain points), although we do have troops/peacekeepers in Afghanistan right now - does that count against the "peace" count?

It is rather well known (or maybe not so well known) that Norwegians and Swedes have had a standing rivalry, although I don't know the origins of it. Maybe it goes back to the days of the Vikings where the two groups would compete for places to raid? If anyone knows, I'd be interested to know.

look all scandinavian hate each other, but, for instance, a danish person, a swedish person and a norwegian person with fight and hate each other and all that BUT if a german person or if any other non-scandinavian person were to say that any scandinavian person were stupid every scandinavian person will turn and kick that non-scandinavian persons ass... and yeah it was the whole viking thing that started the fueding, we just like to fight each other

Well, we didn't participate in the initial invasion, and we're in one of the most peaceful regions of the country (I'm pretty sure our total casualities can be count on one hand), so... I'm not sure what you're talking about?

Besides, "peacekeeping" is hardly some new, insidious doublespeek. Swedish troops served as peacekeepers in the Congo in the 60ies.

I know a lot of good things that come from Sweden, but I know a lot more bad things. For instance how increadably spineless the majority of Sweden, Swedish politicians never want to step on anyones toes, so the put up ridicules laws.
Sweden is ssupose to be the second happiest contry? I call bull on that, I've never seen a person in Stockholm smile just for the heck of it, and when you do it you're self people just look at you and think you are crazy or something.
Also the thing about Swedish women being prettier than anyone else, well that's just because they are insecure and feel the need to look pretty cause they don't have anything else to come with. I don't know maybe I just have another way to look at women and don't see them as instant sexapeal.

note: I'd much rather live in Norway/Canada
