1% from what Ive heard, also there are cases (not confirmed yet, so maybe just some hypocondrics) as far as Australia, and Ive heard a casualty in Israel and New Zealand...
To put it in perspective, SARS had around a 1% mortality rate as well. Australia has 89 suspected cases, although they're currently trying to track down 21 passengers who were on the same flight as the confirmed cases in NZ. There is still nothing to worry about here, I would have thought the disease will be fairly self limiting.
98 already? Jesus. Last time I checked, it was 5 suspected.

Where did you see that?

Herald Sun (One of Melbournes two major competing newspapers). It might have been 87, but it was something around there anyway.

Just checked, about 23 hours official number was "over 70", as far as I know, 4 in sydney, 1 in the central coast, and two in Newcastle (where I live :S) in the past two days. Most worrying this New Zealand IMO, lots of people constantly moving between the two countries...

Safe as usual in good old invincible Australia.

I think this will blow over soon enough, if it gets more serious then it will get lots of media hype like SARS did then it will disappear.
Indeed. Aussie immunity pride!

I'll update my non-worry to mild concern, as its been confirmed it can spread person to person. I still say there's nothing really to be worried about here, as international travel will simply shut down if it suddenly decides to go nuts and spread like wildfire. It's still only got a 5% mortality rate (147 something deaths in 2000 something cases) which is substantially lower than the flu around the end of WWI, so once again. Be cautious but not alarmed, it is not the killer virus to end the world it just could be a little nasty one.
The mortality rate is even lower, so far only 7 deaths have been confirmed to be caused by swine flu.

I also hate how the media is treating those suspected cases, there acting like it has already spread across the globe, infecting thousands. But when it turns out those suspected cases don't have swine flu, it isn't important to report, and they only make a small note about it.

Hmmm, the newspapers keep reporting around 150 or so deaths in Mexico from it, nothing anywhere else so far. I'm not concerned to be perfectly honest.

Yea, well, we now have 5 infections of this flu in Australia, with one being here on the central coast. Now for people saying 'don't worry about it spreading' should really note the distance from here to Mexico, its quite far.

Then again, it could be just someone with a cold that they have locked up thinking that they will cause the epidemic to spread outrageously and the media have blown it outta proportion... which seems to be the greater option as we are now approaching winter and flu's are more common.

Stricter swine flu tests have cut the number of confirmed deaths in Mexico, where the virus was first reported, from 20 to seven, authorities say.

But officials warned the number of deaths likely to have been caused by swine flu has risen to 159 with more than 1,300 patients under observation.

I'm taking the 'likely' with an heap of salt. Also, I'm wondering how the patients, who have swine flu, are doing. Since you don't hear anything about that . . .

Probably just like any other patient with the flu, athralgia, productive cough, fatigue, fever, sometimes dirrhoea and vomiting, the usual things which go with the flu.

Lol, reminds me of the joke someone posted on my facebook page. 'Now you can always say you saw a pig flu!' I was mildly impressed by that one to say the least...

Two Maryland high schools closed down today because of kids getting the swine flu, both of them less than 3 miles from my school. I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone from my school gets it in the near future.
