I would like to clarify a few points in regards to this situation.

First, players in Europe will NOT be playing the game before before the rest of the world. The game retailing on the 15th simply means they can pick up their copy a few days early (and it will ship early for those who ordered online) and thus have their product key available and ready for when the game launches at 12:01AM EST on the 20th.
i got this yesterday

"Early Game Access* will begin on December 13th at 7:00AM EST, 2011 and ends on December 19th, 2011 at 10:01PM EST. During this time, we will be emailing invitations to join Early Game Access based on the order in which you redeemed your Pre-Order Code. Pre-load the game client now, so you're ready to play when your Early Game Access invitation arrives. Note that download time can vary and may take awhile"

that means starting 14th, exactly in europe 12pm gmt 13th?

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you are asking, so I will try to answer as best I can.

The Early Game Access period and the Grace Period are two different things. Early Game Access is the period before launch during which customers who pre-ordered the game will eb allowed to access and play the game, allowing a "head-start" of sorts. This will start at &:00AM EST on the 13th, and will last until 10:01PM EST on the 19th. I am not sure what times that translates to in the various parts of Europe. I think its 3:00AM GMT on the 14th, but I could be wrong.

The "grace period" that is the focus of the current issue with EA/BioWare is a period of time after the official launch (12:01AM EST on the 20th) where anyone who was eligible to participate in the Early Game Access will be able to play without having to try and break through the flood of release day purchasers who are all trying to register their codes as well. In addition this allows customers who are having to wait for their game to arrive in the mail to continue playing while they wait.

yes yes, i knew all that :p im in the camp of people who will be losing out on gametime cause of late delivery but don't care, was just wondering if i was correct in assuming that we'll have access on the 14th, not the 15th as we first thought

I can understand people being mildly ticked about it. But people on the official forums are changing their sigs to "RIP SWTOR 12/7/11." It's mind-boggling.
Especially as July is MONTHS away - talk about forward planning, but I doubt it'll be really very relevant by then :/
*troll face*

But seriously, if you've not actually decided whether to allow a grace period, don't announce one. If you announce one, publicly, then you can't just casually redact it after people have put money down and not expect a fuss. It's almost like this publisher has a history of screwing around with its promises [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114305-Angry-PS3-Gamers-Sue-EA-Over-Broken-Battlefield-Promise]... Whoever EA hired when the published Mirror's Edge and Deadspace, and turned the company's public face around, has obviously been long since fired...

Didn't EA pull this exact same stunt with BF 3 for consoles? With the whole pre-order and get this free game? The biggest problem here is EA constantly advertising gold while not delivering.

Ah

[*shrugs* I'm not impacted much if at all, given that I opted for in-store pickup. Worst case scenario I lose an hour or two of late night gaming. That being said, the type of behavior evidenced in the grace period revocation should not be rewarded. This means using the available tools at hand, in this case either not playing the game at all, or complaining to the relevant authorities. In this case those authorities being the BBB and small claims court. Please note that I am not suggesting a full on class action lawsuit, or anything that requires massive punitive damages. This is what small claims court is expressly in existence for.
Now there, I start to agree with you. Industry practices which are counter to customer satisfaction *cough-UbiDRM-cough* should totally be punished. But people aren't doing it correctly.

If you buy the game and forum rage about it, all that industry learns is that players will suck anything up... even if they complain about it. They'll still do exactly whatever the hell they like, and just spend a bit more time and money on PR (and hence, less on the actual game!).

And let's be totally honest here... the average person is fundamentally lazy. There's simply no way enough people are going to go through the hassle of sorting out a court case (believe me... I'm currently involved in the small claims process to recover some money) for the few quid that you could get out of it.

The best way forward really is to vote with your wallet. I really enjoyed the first Assassin's Creed. But I haven't purchased or played any of the others, because I'm not prepared to put up with Ubi's BS. And I'll continue to do exactly that. I'm not going to forum rage about Ubisoft (or EA, or whatever). It doesn't do anything other than raise my blood pressure. I'll just take my money and spend it elsewhere. That's the only practical way we can influence this.

It just isn't going to work, because the average person is all about instant gratification, so they'll continue to purchase rubbish even while they complain about it.

Of course, half of the MMO buzz is the release rush. Granted, this is for the upper echelon of players.
I hate to point out the obvious... but if a game has to rely on release rush for its value, it's likely not a very good game. And "upper echelon of players"?? Seriously?

Arrogant much?

this is really not worthy of any rage inducement, so you get to play the game a bit later, or rather you get to play the game when it is meant to be released.

i am sorry but it is my opinion that there is no reason why this should cause a fuss of any sort.
sure there are expectations within the MMO business practice but they are by no means laws.

now if the game was released as a broken and unplayable piece of crap, then i would be fuming with rage. this is but a minuscule irritation at worst.
