Did anyone else attend Mardi Gras 2011 last night?

Do you have any interesting stories to tell of the experience?

It's a long string of events to do with the gay community in Sydney every year, ending in a large float parade through a few of the streets in Sydney. It's a really fun thing to get involved in, most people who go dress up in some fashion and you can often see some people go to huge extremes to dress up for the event, last night I saw guys in the most ridiculous costumes.

But mostly it's just a way for the community of Sydney to get together and share some pride and tell the world to be happy.

That is absolute coolsville. I went to a local Gay Pride Event to support my friends on the Drag circut, one of the best times I've had.

They really are fantastic to attend, the community is just like being at a big concert, people are there to have fun and help each other out if there is a problem, cause there's always a big muscular bear or two around to help out xD

And the costumes people wear are just amazing!! I saw so many varied and complex costumes there it put my naughty school girl costume to shame =O

The first thing I think of when I think of Mardi Gras is a bunch of college age fratboy tourists in Louisiana drinking beer and getting women to show their tits.

That's about as far from gay as you can get. XD

I'm guessing lesbian Mardi Gras is the same, just with a lot less testosterone and a lot more boobs.

And even if it's not, that is how I shall always imagine it.

I'm in Brisbane, but a friend of mine went. It sounded like a flippin' blast!

I really like Newtown. That has nothing to do with gay people and/or Mardi Gras. But the veggie restaurants and bakeries are unreal.

No, I didn't sadly. I live in Melbourne and it's during semester, so it was just a bit too difficult for me this year. Perhaps next year, especially since I have a good friend who really wants to go as well.
