Fuck yes. Added to your list are Kamelot, Delain, Within Temptation, the 69 Eyes, and my personal favorite, Dommin.

Nice, someone with a proper taste in music :p Though with Delain and Within Temptation I think they got kind of meh once they started to breakthrough in the mainstream. Especially WT, they got kind of soft. Their early music still had grunts and a darker atmosphere which I preferred. Delain is pretty good, live too, but the only album I can listen to for an extended period of time is their debut album. Especially Frozen is great.

It's my favourite genre, particularly female only or female and male lead singing.
Personal favourites are Lacuna Coil and Nightwish (all three singers have songs I like and think they preform the best)

I haven't given much attention to gothic/symphonic metal. I'm more of a black/death metal kinda guy most of the time.

Maybe Epica would be good to start with?

Fun fact: Symphonic black metal pre-dates regular symphonic metal. And gothic metal actually evolved out of death-doom.

Genres are hard, man.

Maybe I'll just go back to listening to stupid amounts of post-hardcore. AT LEAST I KNOW WHAT THAT IS.

Hey, I mean, I am not complaining. Drive like Jehu, Shellac, and Unwound are always welcome in my house. :D

Yes, Epica is a great one to start with if you like heavy and dark stuff. And early Within Temptation, especially their debut album Enter. Sirenia too by the way.

Lacuna Coil is actually one of the few symphonic metal bands I dislike. The only songs by them I like are the one you linked and Our Truth. HIM is baby goth music :p And yeah, I used the wrong tags. I will fix it right away.

Below there's some more of my favorite songs for those interested. Enjoy!

I enjoy listening to Nightwish, Kamelot, and early-Within Temptation a lot. I also will also give every new Epica album at least a go to see which songs I like and dislike.

Beyond that, I generally get symphonic metal coming up occasionally on Pandora. Quite a few bands of my favorite bands like Avantasia and Blind Guardian have symphonic elements, so symphonic metal itself occasionally comes up on sites like that.

Unless I'm mistaken, symphonic elements in metal predate black metal entirely, and symphonic metal and symphonic black metal themselves came up around the same time (early-to-mid 90s).

Tarja, Anette or Floor? Favorite song?
Fan of all 3 myself, though Anette's live performances were really spotty. Favorite song? Dark Chest of Wonders, followed closely by The Greatest Show on Earth. I like Floor because she can sing just about anything, which must make creating a setlist on tour really fun.

I really should go through the youtube vids posted here. Since Endless Forms Most Beautiful, I've been looking for similar symphonic bands as well. I'm liking the female-led bands and find the dual-vocalized songs - Planet Hell for instance, quite enjoyable. I had even purchased Tarja's most recent album, Colours in the Dark, which isn't bad btw.

I used to absolutely love symphonic metal, but my tastes have refined a lot in the last few years. While I still enjoy a bit of Nightwish or Dimmu Borgir, I find the whole "metal with an orchestra" thing pretty gimmicky. With Nightwish I actually prefer Tuomas Holopainen's solo album because it feels less cluttered. Bands like Fleshgod Apocalypse are downright unlistenable to me.

I'll make some suggestions anyway.

Neurotech has a very symphonic sound that's combined with electronic music and sounds gigantic. This song is instrumental but most of his work has vocals. I guess it leans more towards industrial metal than symphonic metal most of the time, but I love it. Oh, and all of his stuff is FREE.

This song just kicks ass. If you like Dimmu Borgir you'll probably enjoy this.

This band is just spectacular and really unlike any other symphonic/metal hybrid I have ever heard.

If you want something that's just extremely brutal but with tons of melody and harpsichords and stuff, try this.

More brutality. \,,/

A bit of folk, a bit of symphonic, 100% ass-kicking.

Blind Guardian, need I say more? It's hard NOT to like them.

I enjoy all three. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Tarja, but I think Anette did a good job on Dark Passion Play and was an excellent fit for Imaginaerum. I know Floor mostly through After Forever, so I know she can fit well with Nightwish. Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan of Endless Forms Most Bautiful, which wasn't a great start to her albums with Nightwish. Still thought her vocals were good, though.

I'm not sure what my favorite song would be. From the Tarja-era it would be either Sacraments of Wilderness or Romanticide. My favorite song with Anette was definitely Amaranth. So far, my favorites with Floor have been Shudder Before the Beautiful and Weak Fantasy.

For me, Delain was still pretty good on their second album, third one onwards it became meh. Last time I saw them they didn't even do many songs from Lucidity, and those who were performed were diffirent since the growling and such weren't done. Kidna dissapointing honestly.

If anything, I'd say a select few albums from Septic Flesh. They had alot of influences from gothic metal but also death metal. Used to have 3 vocalists if I remember correctly, and their last album (Titan) bring their pre-Communion days back.

Love this stuff, though I think in part because some of it sounds like the better class of Anime BGM.

Personal favorites are Forsaken, See who I am, Paradise, Storytime and Ghost Love Score, though I get the feeling saying that last one is a fave is considred a bit gauche

Sure. Nightwish, Within Temptation and Evanescence are a solid stable on my USB stick for the car.
Afaik Evanescence doesn't label themselves as symphonic metal but alternative. I don't get a lot of the music genres anyway, a lot of them sound the part IMO.

Anyway one of my all time favorites is probably Faster from Within Temptation:

Though that title is probably more like alternative than symphonic? - Like I said I don't get it more often than not.
