Syndicate's use of a dubstep artist

I'm not a huge fan of Skrillex, probably because I associate him/her/it with a particulalry nasty period in my life. But that game looks excellent. Like a better version of the latest Deus Ex, dare I say it.

Dubstep is quite suited to the dytopian near-future thing, alright.

My only real problem is the term "dubstep artist". Like they had to invent a new instrument or something instead of throwing sine-effects into synthesizers.
"Dubstep Artist" instantly reads to me: "No one will remember me in two years."
They're DJ's, or music programmers, or musicians.
Maybe it's just because using the word "artist" instead of "musician" gets annoying.
I keep thinking of History of the World Part 1 (paraphrased because like you care) :
"I'm a philosopher: I make humorous observations on our existence and everyday life."
"Oh, a Bullshit Artist..."

Also, not that dubstep. Just sounds like a car ad's music. The New Neon: Drive Drunker. Something like that.

You know what, I'll be honest. I don't. I don't even listen to that much of it.
But I'm also on a music website and there's a guy on there who is the Jesus of electronic music. It may sound stupid to base what I say about electronic music on what he does but when it comes to the genre, he knows what he's talking about.
And he specifically says that Skrillex's music is partly dubstep.

And no-one's gonna argue with him if he says that.

Wow. Way to gloss over 30 years of dance music and completely miss the mark .

Just fyi, dubstep mostly comes from Jamaican dub music, which is a type of reggae, not dance. It also takes a lot from sub-bass, which first showed up in the early 90's, so I have no idea what 30 years you are talking about. Dubstep is a wholly unique type of electronic music.

Also, my generalization was a comparison of dubstep to metal and their rise in popularity being similar within their genres, not an exact historical accord.

Dub falls within the Dance music spectrum, or at least by my definition where most all modern stuff is either dance or rock descended. And by 30 years I meant basically disco to today. As for wholly unique? DnB, slowed down, plus Scouse House?

Skrillex is partly dubstep in the same way that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are partly thrash metal.

As music on its own however, dubstep is absolutely atrocious.

My sentiment exactly. After watching that trailer (and kind of liking the song) I decided to try out some more dubstep tracks and see what all the controversy's about; I can safely say now that throwing a bag of puppies and a wheelbarrow into an industrial grinder will most likely result in sounds more pleasing to my ears than dubstep.

that was a pretty awesome trailer and remix.

i used to not care for it but dubstep is definitely growing on me, i've picked up 20-30 remixes in the past few weeks on songs and i'm really startin to dig it.

still, it's quite funny to see both sides of the "dubstep" argument, i'll probably pay attention to this thread for the lulz of people raging over it simply existing.

He's not. He's a Bro-step DJ. Meaning, he does nothing original with dubstep and simply perpetuates the worst stereotypes about it. Real dubstep isn't about 'WUBWUBWUBWUBWUB'. It's about using the two-step beat to create cool dance music different to the Drum N Bass that's been dominating the electronic scene for years.

Burial, 2562, these guys are dubstep. Skrillex is an untalented hack who simply re-packages the most common cliches of dubstep.

Hang on, Skillrex isn't Dubstep because he makes bad Dubstep? Bad, derivative Dubstep is still Dubstep. It's kind of in the name right there.
