This is exciting.

That voice gave me goosebumps

What do you peeps think? I hope the developer can pull this off!! I played SS2 a few years ago for the first time, and the atmosphere blew me away, although I never finished it. I couldn't figure out where to go and was running around in a circle in an administration level or something. I feel like I should go play it again...

Edit:

And the Otherside website looks so 90s-ey, I can't help but think they might really make it.

You really should. There's a tool called SS2 Blue Mod Manager that allows for easy installation of mods and they pretty-up the game really well.
Yea, everything about that teaser has me feeling like they can nail the atmosphere of SS2.

And graphics aren't a problem, I played it vanilla last time and it was great. Although, a few couldn't hurt. Maybe if there are some quality of life improvement mods.

You should- and then you should go back and play the first game, too. SS2 was, ultimately, a better game, but the original was excellent, too, and an important piece of gaming history (remember, it came out in 1994; a big chunk of its competition came from DOOM 2).

I just hope they manage to
give the game a decent ending this time. SS2's was... disappointing.

The list of developers working on this project is actually pretty impressive, with quite a few of the original Looking Glass Studios guys included plus even Warren Specter acting as a consultant to boot.

Consider me cautiously intrigued. System Shock 2 I count as one of the best games ever made so that's one hell of a pedigree to live up to, but at least this studio looks prepared to give it an honest shot that pays respect to the original games legacy.

Wonder if it'll end up being a Kickstarter or if they've already secured full funding? Hmmm... Still a lot of questions that need answering before I'd allow myself to be properly excited.

Night Dive is remaking System Shock, System Shock 3 is in the works; every time I promise myself I won't get hyped again, they pull this shit. And that SHODAN clip put a grin on my face I won't be able to wipe off for some time.

The way the game played was weird and most of the time I didn't knew what should I had done. Also a lot of informations for a FPS/RPG game...
Well....at least to Shodan naked. Cause you know.

in the ending see had a body somehow I guess

Party pooper? Party pooper would say that this sequel is a cash cow, relying on nostalgia as a sell and they they even didn't bother with a new IP.

Seriously though, it's most likly going to be a reboot with modernised game mechanics. I don't see many necroing a game with the intent to be faithful.

are you trying to say that their was too much information in the game for the genre(s) it was in?

I don't know either but by their games...Hahaha, they haven't even released one game yet. Christ, they don't even have a wikipedia page.

Credit where credit is due to the veteran developers but that was in a bygone age. Even warren spector has lost his magic since then.

To be simple, the 2D Interface of the game was awful when I played the game in a modern PC, so every time I was trying to read a log or micro-manage my inventory, was painful for my eyes.
And yes, I tried to fix it, but alas I didn't prevailed T_T

Also the RPG part was confusinf for me personally...
I am too old for complicate rules. Even if it had a good tutorial, I get lost at some point.

Wait, isn't System Shock the game that eventually evolved into Bioshock? But this new System Shock isn't made by the guys who made Bioshock?? I am confused...
TL;DR

System Shock 1 was made by Looking Glass.

Between SS1 and SS2 a fraction of employees split off to form Irrational Games

System Shock 2 was a collab between Looking Glass and Irrational.

After SS2 was released, Looking Glass was disbanded. Former Looking Glass employees formed two companies: Arcane games (which made Dishonored) and Otherside Entertainment (which are currently working on the game)

Nobody could use the System Shock license until 2015 because it was owned by EA and some sort of firm. So Irrational made a spiritual sucsessor.

Bioshock 1 and Infinite was a solo effort by Irrational.

Bioshock 2 was made by 2K, Irrational's publishers.

Hope that helps.

I'm interested but I'm curious how they are going to work Shodan back in there. I'm guessing they'll be going with the ending of SS2 where the one woman who managed to get off the ship with her BF somehow got "infected" by SHODAN. Otherwise, I'm guessing it's gonna be another copy of her.

System Shock games - having familiarized myself with them AT LAST - did alot of of the storytelling through that information, rather than a bunch of graphical sequences. More than understandable for the first one, and the mid-game reveal that-

the woman you were talking to before is actually dead and it was Shodan the whole time

-was pretty much the only point that really needed something up front at the time. Still, this is a die hard cyberpunk game series. Should it surprise you that a game called System Shock overstimulates the player with information?

Hmmm now that I know there are some people working on it that have worked on the previous, this gives me a little more optimism.

I was just thinking today, that they should keep it where you can't hear footsteps but you can hear the voices. I found it really increased the tension because you couldn't be quite sure where they were. And there is always those few times where you turn a corner and there is a monkey or midwife in your face. Unsettling to say the least.
