Today I heard a story, it depressed me greatly.
It made me question what the hell is going on in peoples minds these days..

We have a show here in England called 'I'm a celebrity, Get me out of here!' Which apparently films people I've never heard of sit in an Australian rainforest for a few weeks competing to see who can eat the most eyeballs, insects and penises.
This year there was some no-name Italian chef going for it and at some point, tiring of the beans and rice, he decided that some meat would go down quite well for everyone.
So in the well known tradition of catching a mammal, killing and cooking it he provided himself with some tasty Rat-meat.

This didn't go down to well apparently, some animal lovers (Not in that way) namely the RSPCA, An animal welfare organization sort of Like PETA but FAR less batshit insane and generally well adjusted, very nice people, claimed that the killing of an Animal for meat! was "not acceptable."

The Chef now faces charges and is due to appear in Court on the third of February 2010.

As the observant among you may be able to figure out due to some slightly biased emphasis on my part, That I think this whole thing is foolish and a waste of the time everyone involved, including the digesting Rodent.

We are animals, predators to be precise, we are meant to hunt, kill and eat animals. We didn't come to rule the world by going hungry while a meal runs right past.
Yes, I understand that some people are saying it was done for entertainment and not for food, bullshit, it got ate didn't it? It doesn't matter if it was done to impress someone, most things humans and other animals do are to be impressive to someone (usually a member of the opposite sex). Somebody got a meal out of some meat. No-one made Rat skin socks or anything like that, the animal wasn't tortured, it was just turned into food and eaten.

I can't believe the fact that ITV apologised for showing mammals feeding on other mammals when the BBC has been using David Atenbrough to show everyone the same thing since the '60's.

Anyway, this rant had some points somewhere but the ranting kinda got in the way, please what do you all think of this? I'm interested in finding out if I'm the last sane person alive.

TL;DR? Try again, I'm sure you can manage it!

I think it's stupid also, oh i'm trapped in a jungle eating rice and beans you set rats to run across the camp, which we were not told about and was not informed it was domesticated or that we were not allowed to kill them, you know what i'm fucking hungry so i'm going to skill this rodent and eat it:|

...

So let me get this straight, he killed a rat to be eaten for sustinence and is getting charged with it? This doesn't bode well for hunting at all, which doesn't bode well for me because I love wild game such as bear and deer.

Wait, wait stop. The RSPCA is nothing like Peta. Adding the "but less insane" qualification doesn't make that one ok.

All they tend to do is round up pets people have abandoned, or help a cats out of trees. PETA, they ain't. And besides, as far as I understand it, the charge is that the animal was killed for "entertainment" purposes. Not sure how true that one is, but they're not opposing meat eating via the law.

PETA is an animal rights organisation, yes?
RSPCA is an animal rights organisation, yes?
RSPCA is less insane than PETA, yes?

I find that description quite accurate. You, sir, are made of fail.

OT: This makes me laugh.

And yet somehow Bear Gryllis (or however you spell it) is still out there, terrorizing the world.

All he has to do is justify he killed the animal for meat, not for entertainment and he walks. I highly doubt any judge will look at this case and take it seriously.

Wait...I thought the problem was that ITV showed the guy killing the rat and cooking it and possibly doing it just for entertainment value. It's not like the RSPCA has gone all PETA on us.

Anyway, he was given rice and beans to eat. I imagine most people would do the same.

Oh sod off. You would not call, for example, The Muslim Council of Britain "like Al Qaeda" only less insane. Or if you did, people would call you a douche for it.

Ninja'd

but yes, the charge is absolutely ridculous. I bet it is part of the new drive to get everyone turn turn veggie to save the enviroment (seriously, they had paul Macartney at some E.U. summit to promote it.). Though personally i think the best solution to the problems we have is better birth control education.

Having strayed suitably off topic i shall end it here.

Actually there are those that do. well not comparing them them to Al'qaeda exactly but they were accussed recently of being rather fundamentalist about some issue or other. can't remember what though at the moment.

I fully agree, but what gets me is that this happened in the first place, has anyone ever pressed charges against Discovery channel? They film Hunting and killing all the time, and that's all for entertainment.
EDIT:

I do see your point and I wasn't really sure about the comparison myself, The problem is as far as I know, The RSPCA are just known in Britain and for the life of me I couldn't think of any other worldwide animal rights people to compare them with, I wasn't keen on lots of people having no clue who I was talking about.

I could of course change it to something like 'Like PETA but FAR less insane and generally well adjusted, very nice people'

In fact, I shall.

So you're verifying that RSPCA is, for the record, the same level of insane that PETA is? Cause if they're truly less insane than PETA then that makes the description accurate.

It certainly sounds like you're saying that.
/joke

How did Al Qaeda and the muslim faith get worked into that? Seriously?

WHAT NO

The whole thing is stupid, but wait just one second - the RSPCA is suing the chef because the television station allowed the rat-cooking to be shown for entertainment?

THAT MAKES SENSE

My cynical side says the RSPCA is just out for some publicity. Either that or they've gone batshit loco, holmes.
