Tabletop Minis Kickstarter Aims to Produce Plastic Pawns for Every Occasion

Tabletop gaming company ArcKnight has already raised more than $20,000 toward its goal of producing durable plastic pawns for every RPG occasion.

<a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/tabletop>Tabletop RPGs can be a wonderful experience. That being the case, they can also be very incredibly expensive affairs, especially if you're a dungeon master looking to build up a library of miniatures to handle every situation that your players could possibly stumble into. And while recent years have seen the emergence of new companies and <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/kickstarter>Kickstarters aimed at making the process of procuring <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131345-Hero-Forge-Kickstarter-Aims-to-Provide-Custom-Minis-for-Tabletop-RPGs>minis easier, few have dealt with the issue of cost.

Enter ArcKnight. A two-man miniatures operation, its goal is to produce a new line of durable plastic pawns that players and DMs alike will be able to purchase en masse and on the cheap. Toward that end the company recently <a href=https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1534484023/flat-plastic-miniatures>launched a Kickstarter with the hope of raising $10,000 to create "hundreds of affordable quality tokens printed on transparent plastic with front and back art." According to ArcKnight co-founder Joshua Wardrop, this dream stemmed from his and co-creator Philip Krog-Sorensen's own difficulties creating miniatures for a game.

"We'd been working on our own RPG for years as a semi-passive endeavor, and then converted it over to a tactics/RPG board game," he said, speaking to The Escapist. "So we had this board game; we have cards, we have maps, but still nothing in the token department."

Hoping to find a solution "without the obvious flaws of cardboard, paper and wooden" game pieces, they created a custom token made from transparent plastic and using a specialized printer. "We're printing directly onto the plastic surface," explained Wardrop. "Comparatively, these are FAR stronger than any other type of mini or component you can imagine."

Wardrop and Krog-Sorensen (assuming their Kickstarter reaches all of its stretch goals) are currently planning on releasing five packs containing 62 pawns each. Each of these will retail for $25 each. The Kickstarter itself has, as of the writing, already raised more than $20,000 and still has 50 days left until its countdown comes to a close.

I really like their art style. I'd give these minis a try; mostly to see how they compare to nice paper minis, which I am a fan of.

So they are flat and plastic but miniatures? I think I am following. But am I suppose to pour soda on them? Is that before or after dipping them in gucamole?
