I think it's black for the lame pun of "Black Jack" in that it has jack cheese in it. Maybe if you people smoked the green stuff more often you would be more familiar with your taco bell menus.

As a worker at Taco Bell, I can tell you that it's just a normal taco shell with black food coloring added to it. The only other thing different is that it contains the pepper jack sauce that we usually put on the quesadillas, which I think is disgusting. I wouldn't eat the damn thing.

There's not that much dye in them.

There is in fact yellow, red and black corn.

Each in turn producing yellow, red and black corn meal.

Which goes on to eventually produce yellow, red and black taco shells.

But you're right - to get the colour that vivid, they use some dye.

Same as in yellow taco shells.
