A while back, a friend of mine got me into role playing. Liking what I saw and being a bit of a writer myself, I offered him to write a Role Play for him. I got some good commentary on my debut as a Game Master so I'm still in the "business" of writing RP's.

Recently, an idea started forming in my head.
All the RP's I wrote and played were played from the perspective of a single individual.
But what if I could broaden the spectrum and give a player control of an entire civilization or of a large group of people.
A variation of this could be a mixture of the standard RP and this tactical RP by giving the player control of an individual leader (king, general, chieftain,...)so they can both shape their character as an individual and through him the assets he/she controls.

So I started thinking up some concepts and started writing.

I just put this post up to see if any of you have any suggestions for me and if you think this is a viable idea maybe even volunteer to be my "guinea pigs" on a first try.

So what say you?

I was actually part of something very similar. It was about alien spices where we made our own, and their leader and interacted on large scales.

Well, it never really got off the ground, so I'm not sure. Interest just kinda puttered out since the timing was off and some of us weren't really all that committed. But it sounds like it would have been a lot like your idea, just with aliens.

RPG spawned from broader tactical games to begin with, as decades before even DnD appeared there are books in from like industrial revolution that set writen rules for playing strategees. including playing with toy soldier, obviously back then the nearest you would see to warhammer figurines, but decades before. but then someone thought hay wouldnt it be intresting to focus in on the finer details of single units, what if we used themes from fictional literature not just historical... yada yada, and over a century later. we have escapistmagazine.com forum page with everything from pokemon rpgs, to lil wetrooms of people rambling insanely.

wow and breathe... yeah sure im game, experiment away. just give us the vague restrictions and if its a cooperative gaming experience, and who the enemy is, and im sure the situation will evolve.

howdy all,

I remember a friend told me of such things and we even tried to get something like this to work, it was basically loads of armies set with a race you created with some basic guidelines of a point system to keep it fair for army amounts.
Like a foot soldier is 5 points and has 3 abilities, but a general is 50 and has 7 or along the lines of that. Ending result was a disaster and both fun at the same time.
