It's a bit bonkers yes.

But it's also illegal to take or distribute explicit pictures of minors. She's been doing both.

I have a great deal of difficulty thinking of an example of moral panic that is stupider than this "sexting" crap.

She's 14. Punishing her for putting nude pics of herself on a publically-accessible part of the internet is completely reasonable. Turning her into a sex offender most certainly isn't. How is that supposed to help? Is it supposed to protect her from her own sexualization of herself?

I swear that when I heard about this on the news I started laughing my ass off... Why? Because she said that "She wanted her boyfriend to see it" Look, whatever you put on the internet, everybody is going to see, especially if you put it on myspace. People really need to learn to think before they post...

17 years jail, thats a little over the top, took photos of her self and posted them on the net. she just needs someone to tell her what she can and can't be doing on the internet. sexual education needs to be in-forced to inform children of these things and how they can be very serious and effect them.
