Looks interesting in a shit way, but without knowing what the gameplay actually is, I can't really judge. Wouldn't pick it up from the visual or sound design but I can see how some people might like it.

It looks like something you'd watch on adult swim on cartoon network, Music and weird head yelling animation in the sky and all.

There's a style in there but I don't see it appealing to the masses.

I think it looks really interesting, so you aren't alone in your thinking. I actually quite like the aesthetic as it is unlike anything I have seen in gaming. The subject matter seems quite interesting too and far left of what is considered "acceptable" video game subject matter. While it's far from a system seller, I'll likely check it out once I make the leap to next gen (which will likely be to PS4).

I could see the weird artstyle having it's charm for like five minutes but most games tend to last longer then that and I saw nothing in that trailer to suggest it has more then just a bizarre art style.

I'm not the biggest fan of the art style. Some more videos of actual gameplay would be nice. For indie games I always pick gameplay over the artistic style. A great game with interesting visuals (Hotline Miami comes to mind) will always trump a game whose developers are focused more on how the game looks than how it plays - which actually applies to all video games, now that I think about it.

I'm not going to judge this game. Who knows? It could be an amazing, trippy sack of fun.

Indie games are as capable of being garbage as AAA games. There is more creativity, but there is also more people who make games in 5 minutes on MS paint and/or make flappy bird which is a rip off of the free flash game Helicopter. There are people like muxwell who make earth year 2066 and those guys who made air control.

Also, to all those people shitting on the IGN community.

"Oh those escapist users all have terrible taste and are generally stupid."

That is you. That is what you sound like. Do you like sounding like that?

It looks interesting, but I don't really think that the trailer is really enough to form an opinion over. It doesn't showcase much of the gameplay, story, or themes, just that the artstyle and music are intentionally displeasing.

As for whether or not you can just take the piss out of indie games, if they suck, sure. But just generally dismissing them because they are too "pretentious" is just fucking stupid. I really think that that's a word that needs to be removed from game criticism at large, because it rarely gets applied to games that deserve it. Like games that decide that they suddenly have huge, impacting themes out of nowhere, you average dark and serious shooter perhaps. A game having meaningful themes doesn't make it pretentious, a game pretending to have meaningful themes and taking itself more seriously than it deserves does.

My advice would be to watch TotalBiscuit play it on youtube and then decide if you like it. That's my go-to solution when deciding whether or not to purchase a game.

Having watched that trailer, I know nothing about the game except that it looks incredibly ugly. I'm pretty sure it failed at making me want to play the game, in fact I watched that about 3 seconds ago and I've already forgotten what it's called. That can't be a good sign.

If that sold the game to you, fine, but eugh, I don't understand how it could.

Well, indie games suddenly became a term associated with these strange out-of-the-way games, that do lend themselves to being over-rated(read: Bastion, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, Braid, etc.).

It makes sense that people would take the piss out games that follow similar sensibilities to that kind of game, because they can come off as a bit pretentious.

However, judging a game solely based on a trailer is weaksauce. It's all confirmation bias and no real basis of argument.

BULLSHIT!

Trashing the indie scene because "it's not as creative as it thinks it is" is stupid. Creativity fosters when you only have to work off of a ham sandwich budget.

Of course, sometimes it doesn't and you get Air Control but those are cases of assholes trying to make a quick buck. The fact of the matter, indie's are FAR more creative then the AAA at times. Just in the half a year, we got Paper's Please, Don't Starve, The Banner Saga, and right now The Forest. Games that are highly creative even if they are using familiar gameplay to another game (*cough cough Minecraft cough cough*). So yeah, I have no idea what you're talking about...
Seems like you're putting indie games on a bit of a pedestal pal.

you seen to have a very select memory of just what comes out of the indie scene. For every gem there is dozens of zombie games, mine craft clones, rogue likes, side scrolllers, platformers, retro rpg's and retro affectation. Indie devs are invariably, as a creator almost always is and as such they create as much inane bullshit and stagnancy as the mainstream.

And though budgets free independent of the constraints of the mainstream poverty doesn't make your game better.

So no the independents are not as "creative as they think they are", nor are the blind zealots who think the independent scene is infallible.
