I've recently started to play this game and i must admit that i'm amazed. This game is absolute masterpiece for me (i mean characters, story and world not gameplay mechanics).

I think that Velvet is much better MC than Sorey. Seeking her revenge, being a badass and a real demon. I like development of her character, from caring girl to a monster.

What do you think about this game? Do you think that they will make more "Tales of" games simmilar to Berseria? Do you know any simmiliar games? (Story, characters etc.)

Definitely the best tales game in a while, and a vast improvement on the fairly dull "obvious good versus obvious evil" storytelling of Zestiria. Shame it came out when it did, it almost immediately got buried by all the high-caliber releases of early 2017, but I bought and finished it.

Really enjoyed the cast as well. Well, I hated Magilou for most of the opening act. As the story developed, while I'd never go so far as to say I ever grew to "like" her, I did at least feel like the story was better for having her in it, so that's progress in my book! The rest of the crew is pretty solid, and I enjoy functionally playing the villain in the eyes of the world. It's almost like playing a Berserk RPG, with the seemingly evil demonic character selfishly pursuing satisfaction against the seemingly saintly noble character.

My raging hate boner for Zestria has blinded me to what Berseria actually was. I never knew it was about someone taking the path of vengeance.

I should really see how it handles the fusion crap and pick it up on a sale or something...been too long since I enjoyed a Tales game.

I loved Berseria! I legitimately think it's one of the best tales games ever made.

Haven't been able to yet, but everyone says it's the superior prequel to the underwhelming Zestiria. The various commonalities with Berserk can't be a coincidence.

Except for Legendia, I've always enjoyed most of the series for their deconstruction of common RPG tropes after seemingly playing tons of them straight for the first act. The closest series to it would be Star Ocean, though I feel like those games had less effort put into characters and story, to the point where most of your recruits are optional. I enjoyed SO2 though.

So long as it's popular, there will probably be 26 Tales games in total. They still haven't used C, F, J, K, M, N, O, Q, U or Y. What kind of RPG tropes would you like to see taken apart and reconstructed in, say, Tales of Nephilim or Tales of Urobulus?

Berseria is my first Tales game and I'm really enjoying it.

Cast's great, gameplay is pretty good, and story is sound so far.

Protag being a badass helps too.

I've only played Tales of the Abyss.
Are Zestiria/Berseria better than that?
Zestiria is pretty much disliked (I think is a decent enough entry with the exception of it's terrible DLC side-story, but we had worse) while Berseria is pretty much considered to be best in quite a while. If it's better than Abyss gameplay-wise I couldn't say, if you didn't like (or at least tolerated) it's gameplay then Zestiria\Berseria won't sell on the franchise. In fact I think Berseria it's one of the most annoying when it comes to it's combat system thanks to introduction of it's stamina bar that dimish every time you get dizzy or get status effects in battle, so the worse you do, the more dificult it becames. And while they introduced a new way to do combat, it only means that every so often you have to spam O instead of X to win... I found no real reason to mix and match diferent attacks, I set up one combo in each face button and spammed my way to victory. (Played in Normal mode, Hard Mode might not be as simple)
Zestiria is more akin to Abyss combat-wise, however Sorey and Alisha (And later in the game Rose) are always in the party with two of other 4 characters to take the remaining slots. That's because Sorey and Rose can do fusions with the remaining two characters and this makes the game an cakewalk, since not only you get stronger, but whenever Sorey or Rose falls they can use fusion as a ressurection, bringing them back to fight and this can be done multiple times in battle (Rose will use it a lot... AI is stupid).

Story wise I'd rate Berseria above Abyss while Zesteria below that. Zestiria it's a far more Goody-Good versus Child-Eating-Evil... It can be best summarized by "King Jesus Arthur versus Satan", it tries to throw some shade at it a few times but it always end up flat. Some people would say Berseria it's a story of revenge and a fall of grace, I disagree on the latter, Berseria story is about revenge and I think it let's pretty clear it's a pretty grey one where no one (save for a few of characters who fall into good and evil) are truly good or truly evil, they are all fighting for something be either themselfs, their version of a better world or each other. So it's a far more relatable plot and character than Zestiria.

I'd recommend it, I think both are good games, although Berseria is the better one.
Yes, I know I am into the minority in liking Zestiria, but I think is worth a shot at least, at the very least if will complement Berseria a bit... Or just watch the Zestiria anime, it's on it's second season so someone must think it's good enough to watch it.

I have to say that the gameplay is better than Zestiria. Having both of games and really enjoy the story.

I think most of my enjoyment came from having really liked Zesistria and seeing all the familiar places as they were years ago was just incredible.

of course it takes nothing away from Velvet or the other characters, really the only thing I didn't like was the loot system, getting the same gear with different skills just doesn't add anything for me. I rather get cool and unique gear instead.

I'm a bit worried about the series as a whole going forward though, now that the series creator quit and went to SE iirc I'm not sure if they can find someone to treat the next game with as much love as he did. I hope that the third game in the Zesistria/Berseria line isn't another by the numbers RPG.
