Sometimes I feel like the only person that liked Dawn of the New World. :(

This news would make me very happy if I owned a PS3. As it is now, it just gives me another game to get when I eventually pick one up.

I'm sure you're not the only one.

I've never really played it, so I haven't really formed a judgement on it yet. I saw my friend play it though for awhile and from what I was I didn't dislike the characters, and I really like Tenebrae, although I wasn't fond of Emil's Ratatosk mode or the old character's new voices. Still though, I look forward to playing it when it comes out in the US next year.

Symphonia was my first tales game, and I'm glad I'll finally get another crack at it. Along with Xillia and Graces, I'm glad the Tales series is going strong.

My one concern is that, compared to the perfection that was Graces or even Abyss, Symphonia's battle system won't have aged very well. Half of the cast is just not fun to play, as Genis is pretty much waiting through cast time after cast time, while they gave Tear and Jade attack arts in Abyss, and even Cheria is a badass fighter alongside her healing in Graces. On top of all the other improvements, like free running and sidestepping, will Symphonia's combat hold up?

Also, they're making this Tales of Symphonia collection to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series and releasing an English version of game that's already had an English release just doesn't seem like a very fitting celebration as opposed to an HD rerelease of one of the most popular games in the series.
Especially to the Japanese who probably don't care about English localizations at all.
Actually they released Xillia one and a half year ago (in Japan) in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the series. It is, however, the 10th anniversary of the first Symphonia.

Wait seriously?
...I must have misread my sources. Damnit.
I can't believe I did that. I feel really silly now. Thanks for pointing that out to me! I'll go back and fix that now.

That is awesome. With Xillia coming out down under in about 2 months, I should be able to go from completing Graces, to going though Xillia and then picking up Symphonia in the new year almost back to back.

Looks like the PS3 might actually be picking up some steam in it's swan song years. Toei is releasing Dynasty Warriors 8 and it looks like it may be the best one in a long time, Tales of Symphonia is getting an HD update, and Kingdom Hearts is popping up. I've never been so glad to see something other than western style linear story games like Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite.

Hmm, I may try this out.
I gave the original a try some many years ago and wasn't as compelled as I was in Eternia/Destiny II.

I've heard of this game before, but I've never had a chance to play it since I never owned a gamecube.

Aside from the fact that I think I've heard it's an RPG I don't really know anything about it. What's it like? Is it any good?
It's considered really good by most people. And it's gotten pretty good reviews on most sites.
Like Xathos said it's an action RPG where most of the titles in the series don't really have any connection to each other besides some recurring elements. The series as a whole is known for it's unique real time battle system where each character can move around the battlefield and where different kinds of attacks can be performed by using direction and button combinations. The series is also known for it's well developed characters and worlds and engaging plots.
Sounds interesting, kinda like a fighting game rpg. I'll think about checking this out when it comes out.

Can you tell me anything about the story though? You sat it's "engaging", but how so? Is it a generic jrpg plot or is it different?
And how aobut the sequel? It seems like people have differing opinions on that. Was it just not as good or waht?

Well, when it's released it'll probably be cheaper for me to buy a PS3 and the game than to get it for my Gamecube or PS2. Almost all of the Tales games are £50 or more on amazon, and I remember looking up Tales of Symphonia as a game to play after I'd finished Persona 4, but it was £80 for the worst used copy. So that idea got shafted.

It's really that expensive online? Although it was a few years ago I remember I found a copy of Tales of Symphonia at a Gamestop for a fairly decent price. Maybe around 20, 30 dollars? You should look around at some used game stores, they usually have them at a semidecent price, although it may be hard to find as it it a fairly rare game.

...Then again since an improved version of it is coming out for the PS3 anyway, maybe it would be best just to wait. That way your first experience of the game will be with the hopfully superior version.

I loved the Tales of Symphonia games. My friend has the Gamecube version and I got the Wii sequel. Both I really enjoyed. Glad they are remaking them in HD.

So if I really enjoyed the tales of destiny games, is tales of symphonia worth checking out?

I have never played a Tales game before, so this definitely peaks my interests. I know they are ARPGS and that they don't really have any connecting stories (like the FF series right? Except for games that are specifically prequels/sequels to certain installments), but that's pretty much it.

If I see it around, I'll think about picking it up!
Not particularly connecting, but there are references and cameo appearances in most of them. If you're looking to get into the series, I'd recommend playing older, previous titles before the later titles. Tales of Graces f, especially. It has more references, homages and throwbacks than you could count. Now, you don't have to and they're all great games on their own. But the experience is much more enjoyable when you're able to pick up on the smaller, more cleverly hidden references, as well as the bigger, more obvious ones. :D

Tales of Symphonia is my favorite Tales title to date. In my own opinion, it's very, very worth checking out. They're all worth checking out. :D Except Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. But that's probably because the game really isn't all that fun, needlessly creates loose threads and it doesn't look or sound like Tales of Symphonia. It feels like it was created for the sole purpose of appeasing fanboys and fangirls that wouldn't stop shouting MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE! I'm still pretty salty about it.
