I don't know where I get it from as neither of my parents were hand-talkers... well, my dad wasn't at least, can't remember my mother well enough. Huh, thank you OP. I must discuss the origin of this with my hand-talking siblings!
Welcome!

I don't usually, though such a thing is not uncommon nor necessarily bad. Sometimes it really helps bring out the best in one's words. I remember watching Into the West (the tv miniseries) a while ago, and the Lakota men speaking in English used many hand gestures and the like to help get across what they wanted to say. It strangely made all they had to say that much more appealing.

You'll be happy to know that talking with your hands has been statistically correlated to two groups of people, those with abnormally low intelligences, and those with abnormally high intelligences. The basic thought is that people with low intelligences simply don't have the vocabulary to express their thoughts, while for those of abnormally high intelligence, it is a failing of the language itself to be able to encompass their thoughts, so they augment it with hand movements.

OT: Yeah, I tend to be a hand talker too.

Talking with hands is a time-honored tradition seen especially in Italian people. No, this is not a stereotype. We really see it alot in people around here, my own family included. It's a style or instinctive need to point something out with visual aid.

This sorta explains why I tend to do it more the more animated (or excited) I get.

I got the same problem, except that I go BIG with my hand gestures. Punched a friend in the face accidentally because he was waist high (lucky him, imagine if I swung waist high on a regular sized person) and was dumb enough to walk beside me. But there seems to be little connection to what I'm saying and what I'm doing.

Oh gods, I do that all the time! D:

Glad to know I'm not the only person out there who does that when they talk to people. :D

I talk with my hands pretty much every time I talk, unless I'm sitting at a desk at school or doing something formal. I've been told by all my friends that I must be Italian.

I do a lot of hand talking out of habit. Usually it's pointing to things or making weird gestures.
