I do drink tap water, since it's perfectly fine in my country. There was a case when an entire city's water went bad, but it only lasted for a while.

We (in the Netherlands) get unchlorinated en completely clean tap water for about $2 per 1000 liters, so I don't see any reason not to. In fact, overall our tap water is actually better than bottled water, since it's the EU that controls the quality for bottled water, but we do tap water ourselves.

And thanks for asking! I learned a lot reading about this.

I live in Zeeland, the Netherlands. Best quality tapwater in the world!
It was even better when I lived on the island of Schouwen, there's this big forest on a sandy ground with machines hidden everywhere for filtering.
Purest water I have ever drank, man! It makes bottled water taste tainted!

As my fellow countrymen above have said, Dutch tap water FTW!

It's cleaner than bottled water and much, much cheaper. Which makes sense, since we're awesome with water having a quarter of our population living below sea level.

I don't know anyone who buys bottled water here in Finland.
No one questions whether you can drink tap water.

The city water here is considered to be pretty darn good actually. Well water around here is actually a bit sketchy depending on where you are as there are places where heavy metals get into it but the city water is excellent.

Whenever I drink bottled water I can taste the bottle and it is nasty.

I live in the UK and there is nothing wrong with the water.
If you came to my house and asked for a glass of water: you would get tap. I don't buy that stupidly over-priced crap from a bottle when I have perfectly good water running through my tap. I pay my water-bill and it's never poisoned me. If you didn't drink my tap water then I'd make a point of not evening offering you a cup of tea or coffee. :p

Yes I drink tapwater, living in a country where it is pretty clean indeed. Holland yes we have clean tap water, it might taste a bit metallic but it is all clean. We actually have some of the cleaner water if you can trust things.

Now it is a bit metallic so I won't suggest it for its taste, also it is rather hard where I life. Hard water? Yeah look depending on the area you life in holland your water can be harder or softer. This effects it taste but also how much washing powder you require. Now they fixed it mostly but our local water stays on the medium scale of hardness of water. It was worse!

To the east the water gets softer and you need less washing powder.

So bottled water, I drink it at times.. if traveling I tend to buy bottled water with a slight bit of taste added. Think lemon or so. But I am not one who buys fancy "100% pure water" .. no that yes has less a metallic taste then our tap water.

But our tapwater is fine enough, add a bit of lemon and it is awesome!

Most of it it treated with fluoride though, which is a little controversial but it doesn't bother me.
Only crazy people think fluoride in water is a problem. What do they think you brush your teeth with?

And yes, OP. I do drink tap water on occasion.

I live in London and the tap water's pretty awful. I used to live in the north of England, where the water is much cleaner. Despite this, I always drink the tap water here because it's obviously not going to do me any harm.

The moral - Man the fuck up and drink the water. You'll be fine :)

You do know that bottled water is usually just tap water from the place where they bottle it, right?

And yes, I drink tap water, which is of good quality where I live. I barely drink any bottled stuff anyway, only when I don't have a bottle to refill at a tap.

Well, the people who have a problem with it being in the water, have a problem with it being in toothpaste. I assume.

I agree with the latter sentiment, but London water is awful. In fact, I think it's the South East in general, because Norfolk water is even worse.

OT, yes I drink tap water, and in South Wales the water is great. It's basically this stuff straight out of the pipe:

As long as you stay away from Port Talbot...

I pretty much only drink tap water... But only from my own taps, or taps of people I am comfortable with (a.k.a. know aren't massive grubs). I have a water bottle in the fridge that I keep filled with tap water at all times, but will drink straight from the tap if I'm too lazy to go get the bottle.

I think the trend of store-bought 'bottled water' is laughable, and will only buy it as a last resort. Bottled water often tastes pretty bad too- it's got a bit of leeched plastic flavour to it, as well as only being cold for about 30 seconds after leaving the fridge.

Where I live the tap water is great (though that could be 23 years of bias talking)... Oh, and it's fluoridated. Come at me, tinfoil-hat people!

[hr]

As a little aside, the taps where I work are rusty on the inside- fill up a glass and wait, and you'll see a nasty layer of sediment form on the bottom. Yuck.

I always forget that there are countries where the water isn't as clean as it is here in Denmark... then again, we apparently have the most expensive tap water in the world. Which is somewhat weird as it's only some $6.70 per cubic meter.

I drink tap all the time, though I currently live near Mt. Rushmore and all the water in the area has a tiny bit of arsenic in it and I need another filter to make it safer but it still tastes better and is less expensive than bottled water. Oh and this is awesome EVIAN .... NAIVE... yes http://headtrip.keenspot.com/d/20110131.html

Dude , it costs a total of 3$ for a 24 pack of bottled water . I don't know where you're buying your water ... But you're getting ripped off .
A 24 pack of 400mL bottles is around $18 here soo... That's why I drink only tap water and only buy a bottle if I'm out and desperate for a drink. A 600ml bottle costs around $4 here from a vending machine.
