I recently bought Jagged Alliance 2 from Steam and am impressed by how good it is. It's been quite a while since I played such an entertaining turn based strategy. I also bought Disciples 2, but it just seems like a Heroes of Might and Magic rip off to me. So, here's a list of my fav turn based strategy games:

Heroes 1-3
Civ 3
...

I'm sure there was more but I can't actually remember them... Oh well, does anyone know any other good ones?

Cheers

Galactic Civilizations 2
It's a turn based game in which you control the advancement of a space-faring race of your choosing. You basically colonize planets, build beneficial structures on those planets, explore the map to find more planets, build a variety of ships to defend your empire/attack other empires, and advance your way up the tech tree in a couple different directions.

A neat little feature is the custom ship builder, which essentially lets you build whatever frame for any ship class you want out of a couple hundred pieces, then festoon it with any technology you've already researched. Kinda like civilization in space, I guess.

Advance Wars series for the DS. I love the art style (even in Days of Ruin).

As a guy who sucks at any type of Strategy, I can still enjoyed getting my ass kicked.

Agreed. It's just like Rock, Paper, Scissors; but instead of those 3 'units' in RPS, you get more than 20 different ones. And then there's the tiny experience bonuses, the terrain, fuel/ammo/materials, CO's and their powers, weather conditions. You can create your own maps and trade them. And you can go online with it, wewt.

Can't wait 'till Fire Emblem DS comes out, which basically has the same gameplay, but actual character development, and consequences if you make a mistake (characters who die, stay dead in battles).
