I just wanted to jump on the power station thing because it's true and awesome.Kinitawowi said:(British electric kettles are higher power than American ones, at least partly because they boil faster to make tea with. We have a power station that exists just to cover Britain making tea. This stuff is important.) Milk afterwards. The entire point is to scald the tea and you can't do that if it's swimming in cold milk.
And if anybody pokes their pinky out while drinking, break it.

(I've been to Dinorwig and would recommend the tour to anyone, very interesting day if you happen to be in Snowdonia)wikipedia said:Today, Dinorwig is operated not to help meet peak loads but as a STOR (Short Term Operating Reserve), providing a fast response to short-term rapid changes in power demand or sudden loss of power stations. In a common scenario (known as TV pickup), the end of a popular national television programme or advertising breaks in commercial television programmes send millions of consumers to switch on electric kettles in the space of a few minutes, leading to overall demand increases of up to 2,800 MW. In anticipation of this surge, an appropriate number of units at Dinorwig (or other services competing for National Grid Reserve Service duty) may be brought on line as the closing credits start to roll. The monitoring of popular television channels is an important factor in electricity grid control centres.

OT: As everyone else has already said, there's not much to it. But depending on where you live, the less popular teas can get very expensive very fast. I am lucky living in London, there's pretty much every type of tea imaginable in a shop within 25 minutes of my front door.
Personally, I quite like a lot of different tea but nothing will ever beat a perfect English breakfast or Earl Grey. The advice I would give is generally get higher quality teabags to start off with- PG tips is generally accepted to be quite good as far as English breakfast goes, can you get that in the states?
Of course loose leaf will probably be higher quality most of the time. But you have to start somewhere.
