...Come on, now TF2 on the PC has an in-game store and the Xbox still gets no DLC...If my computer didn't suck I'd definitely play the PC version
You really don't need a great computer to play the game, I think

I liked TF2 at launch. It was a good straight forward game where you could jump in at anytime and have fun, but now there is just too much extra hanging off the game.

I really didn't see the need for a backpack or crafting or any of that. I liked it when you knew exactly what you were going up against when you saw a class and you knew that in a 1vs1 battle with the same class you were equally matched for weapons.

I'll admit that I've had fun with the KGB and the Equalizer, the game seems to go more and more downhill with every major update, with the game getting more and more bloated (I want the old menu back damnit) each time.

This update just really did it for me though, I just had to decide that it's just not worth my time anymore. I was fine with weapons being available through achievements, I could wait for hats and the odd drop only weapon, but being time poor and strapped for cash I think maybe I'll just have to go back to counter-strike for my online kicks, the game I know will (mostly) stay the same. Because I don't want to have a couple weeks break and go back to find every man and his dog playing with new weapons that I don't have the time to wait for, or money to pay for.

But really, this is just my opinion and not one that many people share (or so I've seen).

I would pay $20 for a "Team Fortress 2 Classic".

It sounds good...

But wait until they remove random drops, and you HAVE to buy the items. Then let's see anyone defend it.

Kotick Approved. ;D

As I've stated previously in a different thread, I'm a bit worried where this might be heading. The main issue I have is that the weapon sets require a hat to gain the class bonus. As any TF2 veteran would tell you, the chances of a hat dropping are slim and the chances of it being the hat you want or need are even slimmer. If you actually enter the in-game store you'll see that the special hats you need to complete the set are selling for $17.49. That's $2 less than the cost of the game. If pricing falls, I have no problem, but as it is Valve is charing you $17.49 for a piece of DLC that buffs your character slightly. In any other game, that would be an outrage.

Why would you do that? You could just go find a server that bans all unlocks ^_^.
Just to have something that hopefully wouldn't break with updates, well that and it'd be official so it hopefully would attract players rather than being drowned out in the infinite list of servers.

Actually I just had a better idea: sv_unlocks 0/1
That would be both official AND auto tag for the server browser.

All of that said though, I still love the whole universe of TF2 and would still rank it one of the best multiplayer games I've played. I just feel that the barrier for both new and players who have a long break once in a while, is getting a little high. I find myself having trouble walking new players through the whole system compared to when it launched.

Launch: Pick a server -> Pick a team -> Pick a class -> Shoot some stuff and have fun.
Now: Need to explain backpack, crafting + now trading and store -> how to change loadout -> answer questions on why do I need to change stuff and what does it do -> then go through steps above.

I'm just saying that the "classic" TF2 had a low barrier for entry and as such was easy to get into and for anyone to enjoy. I have friends who just bought that game and were like: how am I going to compete if I don't have the same selection of abilities as everyone else. Yes, the store might make this point null, but not everyone want to shell out extra money just so they can play the game they payed for properly.

If you can buy the items and find them via drop system: FUCK YEAH!

If you can ONLY buy them: FUCK THAT!
They all drop as normal. Atm you can only get the Polycounts by buying, but all will now drop (though without the Vintage)
Polycounts drop like any other item.
