So, with 20 bucks on my credit card, I plan to buy Team Fortress 2, after being told to do so by my cousin over and over. However, he couldn't describe the game...

People who play it, can you give me a rundown of it?

Basically, its an objective-based first person shooter, deeply similar to battlefront, there are nine classes each with unique abilities and unique roles to accomplish the objective.

Two teams of nine sociopaths with exaggerated personalities and ethnicities are perpetually locked in combat for no discernable reason, and will often engage in acts of appalling and hilarious cartoon violence. Sometimes they attempt to escort a bomb into an enemy base, sometimes they capture flags, and sometimes they just kill one another.

A hat simulator with a mini-game that involves you going off alone to do a task(capturing a flag, killing other players, taking control points)

What is rather unique about TF2 is how not serious the gameplay is. You play to have fun more than you try to win. No one really cares about their kill/death ratio, and even the points system doesn't matter too much if you are still being a team player.

There is also something for everyone. If you don't like being a team player, you can go spy and just backstab and sabotage the other team. If you don't trust your ability to kill before being killed, just go medic or engineer and support the team through healing and re-arming them.

The only thing I really don't like about the game is how they added the store and didn't drop or remove the original purchase price. maybe that's a good thing to keep the douche-bags out, but I believe that if you are going to try to generate more income from a game with micro-transactions, you give the game away for free or really really cheap.

It's all about this fella [http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Demoman]. Tip: put the stickies on the ceiling.

Really, though, just experiment with the classes and find what you're good at. That goes without saying, but a lot of people will tell you to be a Medic and observe the other players. That didn't help me learn anything but how to follow a Heavy. People have been playing this game for a long time now so lots of them are ridiculously good at it, don't feel intimidated though. New players can hold their own as well.

Also, you can buy new weapons and hats, but be aware that they drop randomly. The default weapons aren't any better or worse (well, mostly), so you don't need the other ones to do well.

I'm on there as the DustyDrB (imagine that). But if you don't play capture the flag in 2fort often, then you'll probably miss me.

Before hats it was a well-balanced team based fps. Even with the unlocks, it's still pretty balanced. Problem is hats and the Man Co. store have turned it into Valve's Corporate whore.

It's very stylised, and very fun. There really isn't much else to say which hasn't been said.

Nice hats though.

It's a war Hat-simulator with a FPS side.

Joke aside, it's pretty fun. I never saw anyone bothered about their K/D ratio (except for arena) and as soon as you find the class that suits you best, fun will be found.

If you like cartoons, and stylized low-graphics shooters, Team fortress is fun,

Tactician-wise though, it requires a bit more cordination.

Personally: for 20 bucks, get yourself something that you need/want/help you out more, I personally don't think this game, at the very MAXIMUM is 15 due to all its issues. (don't get me wrong, its fun, just not THAT fun.)

It's a very fun game, but can also be very luck based at times, with the crit system. And hats aren't everything, but be prepared to have some, oh and get ready to learn a bunch of tf2 only memes, such as mentlegen. All of that aside, it is really fun, and has a lot of mods to it so you will have your moneys worth if you like it.

THIS. I personally have had a lot more than $20 worth of fun, but really, don't spend $20 on it. It goes on sale all the time for $10. There have even been a few times where it was $2.50. Really, just wait for the Orange Box to be $20 and buy that. You will get HL2, Portal, AND TF2 for that price.

Also, ignore the snarky hat comments. Hats might have become something of a status symbol in the game, but what good are they if you only ever see them on you if you die and don't gib from explosives (most things that kill you explode).

Honestly, maybe half a year ago, I would've recommended this with more energy than I would've put into anything.

Now, don't get me wrong, it's still probably the best multiplayer-oriented FPS out there, it's just, I feel that Valve may have gone crazy with the community-developed content. Not that it's inherently bad, it's a phenomenon that something that isn't subscription-based gets this much support this many years after release, and that it's essentially free.

I just feel that they may be adding too much without regarding balance, especially since many of the weapons are dependent on certain variables(e.g. random crits) that many servers disable and that many of the older, more popular maps weren't built for some of the newer weapons.

Well, if you buy today, it will be $5 instead of $20. Really, just do it.

It's a great game, but it was a lot better before they introduced crafting and the store and the heap of new items that came with it. Ah well, it's still worth a buy.

Its a strange game now.

Its dominated by hats.

...I mean that may perk your interest in it.

But I'm warning you.

Its about hats now. Not shooting.

First person hat simulator.
