Hey, I was just reading my other favorite nerd website "Techland", when I came across this brand-new article they posted in which they named their picks for worst games of 2009 in various categories. It's by no means comprehensive--for instance, they don't even try to name worst overall--but it's a fun little article, and I thought my fellow Escapists would enjoy reading, commenting, and adding their own categories/nominees.
You can read the whole thing here: http://techland.com/2010/03/03/for-the-worst-of-the-worst-of-gaming-in-2009%E2%80%A6-the-crashies/
The article introduced me to a few games I'd never heard of, with good reason! Of these, the most entertaining category to me was "Least Enticing Title". The "Crashie" for that was given to "MLB Front Office Manager"--Really? You're going to give a game that kind of name? I can't imagine the type of person who likes video games, or baseball, thinking that being a manager sounds like a good time.
As far as getting the ball rolling with our own suggestions, I have to confess that I just couldn't afford new games in 2009, which is probably why I spend such an inordinate amount of time reading about them. So, I can't really nominate any, but I will create a new category: "Worst main character". (Ahem.) I've heard a multitude of complaints about the types of characters we're expected to get into, so I imagine a lot can be done with that.
Now, I leave it to you. Was "MLB Front Office Manager" actually a thrill ride-and-a-half? And what categories/nominees would you give the "Crashie" to?
