ACTA, proving we really are in the future... a soon to be cyberpunk dystopian future.
Instead of whining about it on forums, how about you rally some support against it or start some protests? That would seem like the more productive option...

OT: The internet. I mean seriously, all this entertainment and information.....at the click of a mouse...

I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just that the railgun launches a round with no propellant, so if you're so far out, how can you get it back down to earth onto a target? I'm thinking it would just go into low orbit.

Although I guess it is possible that it just drops down and uses guidance to hit the target. The 152km just seems a bit excessive...
I think it's comparing missiles with rail guns. Missiles need to go up and then down, which makes them susceptible to detection and interception. Rail gun shots... well... There's not a lot you can do about those.

And it's got to be smartphones. They're the omni-tools of today!

Or perhaps the entire field of genetic manipulation.

GPS and satellite navigation. For all it;s flaws, it's using currently existing technology that to an extent, is basically giving you a HUD minimap en route, with information on roads being updated constantly, thus saving paper from new Atlas'.

Of course we will still need atlas' because the tech isn't foolproof, but you've got to admit, we've come a long way with a number of technological and mechanical breakthroughs.

Not as flashy as the other examples, but for me the day I felt I was really living in the future was the day storage space was measured in Terabyte. The mere notion of the terabyte sounded like science fiction to me when I was a kid. Now you can buy an external hard drive for 50 bucks.

I was watching the Gadget Show yesterday and it showed a prototype for the hotel room of tomorrow. HOLY CRAP! Everything is voice activated, the lights change colour (for reasons I can't remeber), the lights turn on in the bathroom when you get up in the middle of the night, the walls are internally heated by the bath (which has a jacuzzi function) and it just looks so futuristic.

For me, it's the Chase Bank app on the iPhone. I can deposit my paycheck without going to the bank. It's fucking awesome.
The damn iphone itself put it in an eyepiece and i can pretend we're in mass effect(aside for the nude alien chicks)

Oddly enough, modern digital camera battery grips.

It takes 2 battery cells and slides in and locks. Just like the bigger versions you see on scifi shows.

Robot Wars, as in the television series. I mean, we had man made machines of destruction (albeit remote control ones) fighting to the point of destruction for our amusement. Even if they did always end up in the pit.
This post made my day.

OT: The internet. Also pretty much anything that comes out of Japan.
