Yeah but what if you lost the remote? Think about it.

I would quite like some sort of case that lightens your load. Like the rucksacks that every character in every RPG ever has where they can carry 50 suits of full plate mail without sweating. Maybe they could put helium balloons in the lining or something.
In my view, the remote would be about the same size as a cell phone, so it would be something likely to fit easily in your pocket. Not a TV remote, either. It's sort of like a cell phone you use to dial the numbers you set to call the device.

It wouldn't be small enough to lose easily.
But in your OP you said you could attach these tags to things like cell phones which are lost easily. Never mind. I would have though it would work better if this device you'd use to ring your lost objects was in a fixed position, maybe wall-mounted or something. Hey wait, we already have those. They're called house phones!
Depends on the cell phone, I guess. Mine isn't lose easily, as it is bulky. My iPod, DS games, and such DO get lost easily.

But anyway, I digress. Wall mounting was a concept I didn't think of, but one that would make this a LOT more optimal. Good idea. It would be bad for when you go on vacation and don't want to accidentally leave everything behind. Plus the tags would have to be designed such that they didn't interfere with wireless communication. And it would kinda mess up DS games, and make them not fit.

We could make one for fixed position, like a house phone, wall-mounted, per your suggestion, and one for transportation use, bound to the same tag numbers.
Here's how I picture it working:

Husband: Honey, have you seen my keys?
Wife: No, dear, why don't you check the Tracker?
Husband: Oh, yeah!
(Husband walks over to the wall-mounted Tracker, and types in 0001, the number he set for his keys. The device on the keys activate, and make a high pitched beeping noise. With that, the Husband easily finds his keys, cutting out a 5-10 minute excursion of finding his keys.)

Ideally, the Tracker could be a service offered by the phone service providers, allowing people to bind tags to objects, and allowing one to just use their own home phones as the Tracker. However, given my admittedly little knowledge about how phone service works, I wouldn't consider myself an expert on its potential.

Lets just say Back to the Future part 2 and leave it to that.
That and everything from "The Fifth Element".
Also, cybernetic implants and augmentations (No, not that kind, you dirty people), so I can bench-press cars and see through them!

A device that could make french-fries taste good when you microwave them. I once spent an hour thinking of possibilities, and I may be on the edge of a scientific breakthrough.
I was thinking about that, maybe a multi-spectrum oven that microwaves, burns, and irradiates it!(Irradiation is an actual sterilization process used on food, ya know!)

There is hope ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lXRHPKIvLc

Nuclear fission (or some variation of it)
We've been using nuclear fission for quite a while. All the nuclear power stations and reactors in naval vessels are fission reactors. Fission is simply splitting atoms and using the energy released from nuclear decay.

I think you're referring to nuclear fusion. That is a form of nuclear power we are working on now (referred to as thermonuclear energy). We have achieved it in nuclear weapons, but we simply haven't unlocked all the secrets to developing a practical or useful fusion reactor.

Something to extract energy from human body heat.

I mean, think about it. Sit on this thing and watch TV, and it powers your TV as you're sitting.

Why isn't this being funded right now?

Flying cars and jetpacks will never be viable means of transportation.

If something goes wrong (engine failure, bird in the turbine, etc) you're screwed, going down, and probably going to die

A computer that blows up when people use it to troll. And not just so that their computer is rendered useless, I'm talking a face-melting blast.

Mr Buckingham. I want one.

I'm still waiting on electric that can travel through the air to power things that way. Also, virtual reality.
