Teen dot com has Escapist user accounts?

I was looking for an old post of mine for an old link, so I googled my name and a snippet of the post in question. I found said post, but then something caught my interest.

Me and all other Escapist users are apparently registered users on the site Teen.com, with the profile-pages taken from the Escapist whole-sale, including badges, friend-list and even the list of posts which actually link to the Escapist. The funny thing is, I couldn't find a way to access these profiles from the site itself, only through Google.

Is this some kind of weird merger I never heard about or is something more nefarious going on here?

Defy Media owns both teen.com and escapistmagazine.com, though I was unaware our profiles were shared over Defy's property.

Weird.

As AccursedTheory said, both websites are owned by Defy Media, and thus they share the same user database.

It's also why our accounts work on Warcry, as well as a bunch of other sites I cannot recall right now.

Okay, that kind of makes sense. Still, I was kind of freaked out for a moment when I saw my monicker show up on a site I definitely didn't register to...

...Not so sure how I feel about this. Look I suppose were Defy Media's property, but I'm not sure I'm feeling having my name on a website that quite frankly sounds like it should be for something shift and illegal

Nothing we can do about it, I suppose.

Yeah, I don't want to be registered to teen.com. At least my Escapist profile does not have any personal information. I guess it just prevents my username from being dragged through the mud over at that teen site.

Off topic: I just goggled my username and it turns out my username is a website, but the site looks abandoned.

Zombie Fish is right, there's a whole host more of semi-active to dead sites hanging around which share our Escapist profiles, for example:

http://agkq.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/JoJo
http://www.themis-group.com/profiles/posts/JoJo

Which both weirdly have my avatar from last year, rather than my current one. Odd. There was also some sort of female-oriented site with our profiles on which I can't find now, it may be been deleted or turned into teen.com.

We should invade it. Tell a bunch of teenage girls how much Justin Bieber sucks. Get ourselves banned on Teen.com for the greater good :D

When I Googled people's Escapist profiles in the past, I commonly got a link to a site called 'AGoodKnightsQuest'. 'Teen.com' seems to have replaced it now, since the latter has disappeared. The other Defy-owned sites usually show outdated avatars as well:

The Escapist's PM system also does that, though. Teen.com does actually have forums with threads that have been posted in within the last month, so you can go over there and meet new people if you feel like it. It's quite a slow place, though, so I assume it'll be culled soon. We'll then presumably have to bring our numerous discussion of One Direction and Twilight over to The Escapist's forums. I'm rubbing my forelegs together in anticipation!

EDIT: No, it looks like AGoodKnightsQuest is still up. Crap.

I'm not really happy with this sort of thing and as I've not been online on the Escapist in ages, is there a way to delete your account / hide it? I've been through all my settings. I only found out because there are the odd blog hit from that teen.com website.

Oh fuck I forgot I linked my twitter to my profile.
Also, my avatar on Teen.com is way out of date.

You can contact the Tech Team if you want your account "deleted". Though I think that would apply for all the websites, so if you still want the account on the Escapist...I dunno, I suppose it might be worth still asking them.

Well.. I didn't sign-up to Defy Medias site, I was sure it was The Escapists.
Now, if I was given the option to use my current profile on other Defy Media owned sites, I would not be so opposed.

Bad style quite frankly.

There used to be a whole tonne of them as part of the Warcry network, including things like one dedicated to Harry Potter. I think all of those went either before or when Warcry was revamped as I haven't been able to find them since.

Not sure about the avatar thing. Seems very inconsistent with which users' avatars are up to date, judging by my friends list.

The CSS also seems to be a little borked; there's more spacing between lines on the user profiles than there is here, resulting in things like the top 21 badges being clipped.
