You want to meet an irrational person? Make them emotional. Bring emotions into play and even the most wise and patient of logical creatures turns into a scared and irrational being. There's no avoiding it, it's going to happen to all of us eventually, likely multiple times. It's why divorces are almost always nasty, people are almost always insane, and bad things happen to two otherwise good persons. It happens.
Now put that onto teenagers, thrust into this world that they've read in books and seen on TV, which makes them nervous to be a part of. Then all that posturing is to look confident so the nervousness doesn't show, and all the emotional backstabbing is just trying to get ahead and whatever expense it may cost. So, emotions are silly, they ruin the logical mind, and they turn good people into madmen.
Yet, we can't get along without them. Without them, we go mad anyway. There's clearly no winning.
