360 controller designed to look like a ps2 controller.
Yes the original xbox controller took elements from both the dream cast and the PS1 and PS2.
Though it did make refinements to them. By swamping around the thumb stick with the D pad from the Ps2 controller layout, it gave it a more natural feel (like the dream cast). and adding throttle like triggers was an innovation of some sort. ( I could go into more detail but that would be an entire essay )
Replacing the Black and white buttons with shoulder buttons like the Ps2 was a nice refinement for the 360.
Also note that the PS3 now has triggers like the xbox and a centre button to bring up a menu for xbox/playstation control, so both company's have influenced each other...

The keyboard and mouse is the most flexible controls out there, by adding top notch joystick, you can play just about any game you can think of. Though it means switching between devices and you can't really walk around with them, or play standing up without a table...
The xbox360 joy pad is by far the most flexible easy to use controller on the market, motion sensing was a nice experiment, but it has not been taken full advantage of.
Maybe if you split the 360 controller in two, and added motion sensing like the wii, plus a gyro for full tilt sensing accuracy. Also been able to 'lock' them back together again to form a single solid controller again would be a nice touch for FPS and racing games. Been able to charge your batteries while you play is also a very important feature. Oh and don't forget rumble!
