I come from Berlin, Germany and now live in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
Berlin Germany's capital, its largest city and the most insane thing that Germany has to offer. Its a city of poverty and wealth (on the German level, mind, which is nothing compared to say DC^^) and vastly different neighbourhoods. The scars of the Berlin wall are still visible. It is not a beautiful place. No "berliner" admits to liking Berlin, and no one not from it is "allowed" to like it.
People from Berlin also posses a subconscious arrogance about being from the only big place (sorry Hamburg) which often generates animosity when on holiday somewhere else in Germany.

I'm a big-city kid and out of my depth in small cities, but right now I cherish my adopted city of Nijmegen. Like the Netherlands its small, cramped and at times intensely beautiful. Also there isn't the dreaded public transportation system we have in Berlin.

I haven't been here long enough to comment on the Netherlands, suffice to say that people here can be very, very odd.

My real home, however, is northern Norway. The most beautiful country in the world. I return from time to time to honor my citizenship there and to visit my vast clan of relatives.
People are colder there, but I like it..

I come from, and live in, Norway. It is pretty neat, if you ignore all the polar bears roaming the streets.
Oh, and we apparently have two suns here. The normal one we share with the rest of the world, and the Midnight Sun. Beat that!
-_-

But in all seriousness, Norway isn't that known I think. Even though it has been deemed one of the best countries to live in.
The midnight sun is always neat.
Why it is deemed THE BEST PLACE is somewhat beyond me.. it is very good, but some things, like a better medical system, wouldn't hurt..

Norfolk, Virginia: No-one knows where it is untill you say it is "Near Virginia Beach"
Interesting, Norfolk is a town? It's always been my default name in video games.

Anyway, I'm from Novato in Marin Country, California. Beautiful town, but boring and we aren't considered members of Marin County by the other towns as have much more open space and not as industrialized.
I've never heard of Norfolk in the US, whenever i hear Norfolk i think of the county in the UK.
OP: I'm from a town near Birmingham called stourbridge its a tiny place and the scottish army apparantly ran up its high street during the 3rd Civil War ^_^ and thankgoodness we don't really have the birmingham or dudley accent.

>_>. Yes it is a town. It has the biggest naval port in the world! I'm surprised no-one knows of it!

I live in the Sutherland Shire, home of the Cronulla riots that featured on the american news for about five seconds while I was (luckily) on holiday there. We've got a crapload of bogans (pretty much the aussie version of rednecks, listen to this song [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDXRT53QduU] if you want to get an idea of what their like) and a nice-looking national park that's only older than yellowstone.

Well my family live in Powys, the largest County in Wales
Is there a castle nearby? I think i have been there.

(in york) it is still legal to kill a Scotsman with a crossbow from the city walls after dark. Amazing architecture, with the old city walls still encircling the city centre. I do like living there...
That's funny, in Chester it is legal to kill a welshman with a crossbow, from the city walls, after dark.. oh i love how weird the UK is.

I live near Chester, Birkenhead and Liverpool. Due to EU money, Liverpool now has a lovely city center, but everything around it is bad... very bad. Guns, knives, and chavs. Birkenhead is scummy, some of the buildings there don't look like they have been repaired since the Blitz...

Chester is nicer. Used to be Roman Fort, i would say founded in AD 60-70ish and garrisoned the 20th legion (the Deva Victrix.) So the roads in the city are ordered in a very logical and Roman way, so its hard to get lost. You can also see a Roman Amphitheater just outside the city walls, as well as the damage to the city walls done during the siege of Chester during the Civil War where Parliamentarians blasted their way into the city with cannons. Most of the buildings there are a cross between medevil, Tudor, and Victorian, it is a bit like York, only smaller. It is a nice place, but there are rumours of increasing violence due to lack of police presence in the town at night- Liverpool city center on the other hand is perfectly safe, because it is swarming with cops.

Indeed there is, Powys Castle. Very nice gardens, so I've heard.

I don't think I've ever been to Chester aside from the zoo, but I've heard that it's a very nice place to live. York has the same sort of cosmetic damage, those Parliamentarians really didn't take no for an answer... I have no desire to ever visit Liverpool. Ever. If I'm staying in Wales and need to get some stuff, I'll go to the Bullring in Birmingham, which is at least bearable despite the huge number of people there. York tends to be pretty good with it's crime, I've seen a few chavs about but they seem to be the exception rather than the rule; it's quite a nice, safe place to live, and the Uni is amazing :D

I guess I can start by saying: The most popular beers that you'll probably find at any party in the state I live in, Illinois, are Keystone Lite and Natural Ice, because it seriously costs $13 for 30 beers. Tastes like ratpiss
Yes, yes they do. I remember trying them a few months back. They were disgusting.

Anyways, I'm from Chicago. We have lots of landmarks here. Osaka Garden, Oak Street beach, Buckingham fountain, the Chicago theater, and of course Navy Pier. Those are just a few.

The summer is one of the best times to be in Chicago. We have tons of festivals. Theres Ribfest, Taste of Chicago, and of course Lollapalooza.

We're the 3rd largest and 3rd most expensive city to live in in the US. The largest city of Illinois, in the northeast part of the state on Lake Michigan. The name Chicago is first recorded in 1688 in a French document, where it appears as Chigagou, an Algonquian word meaning "onion field." We also have Oprah.

We also have a really cool skyline.

Yuma, Arizona.
Not much to say about it other than it's annoyingly hot most of the year; it also holds the record for being the sunniest place on the planet.

I hail from the valley of Sundsvall, in the depths of the country known to Sweden to some, and "Here there be vikings" to others.
It had lots of sawmills in the old days, and paper's pretty much all we make around here.
I think the most intresting fact is that there was a rather bizzare man who lived here and played a prank on the town by sewing a dead Hare and a dead Western Capercaillie together creating what in Swedish is known as the Skvader
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skvader)
And in 1888 the old wooden city burned down in a great fire, causing it to be rebuilt with great big streets and stone houses. It was called a phoenix and got lots of chinese dragon motives here and there.
A nice litle city with what I think (if my memory is correct) has Swedens best water.

Im from Sweden. People not from scandinavia tend to believe that all women here are all tall, platinum blonde beauties (and that they are all named "Inga"), because a number of them having made careers in glamour modelling.

But this isn't really true. Women here don't really look much better than anywhere else in the world. (also, few of the younger women are actually named "Inga" these days, it's a more common name among older women)

Also, the Swedish academic world has been infiltrated by politically correct feminists, lacking any sort of reason and intellect. And this political correctness is spreading like a cancer, slowly eroding pretty much every university (except the technical ones) into anti-intellectual cesspools.

Great huh? : )
Yet then again, political correctness is everywhere these days.
But I do hate that stereotype. Blonde Ingrids and Ingas the second Sweden is mentioned. IKEA and ABBA: BECAUSE CAPS LOCK IS AWESOME.
Oh yeah... And we've had peace for a little more than 200 years.

Finland has the highest number of swamps in the entire world. Woo.

I've been following the situation for a while now. It does look alarming, I have to say. Overblown political correctness is dangerous. Freedom of speech isn't what it used to be, I presume?
Anyway, you have Finland's support, at least for my part.

I am from a small spot in Cleveland, Tennessee that serves as a tiny bubble of decency in the depths of the bible belt. It's beautiful, well-built, and civil, though if you go farther than a few miles you begin to hear the banjos.

Norfolk, England =P

Bloody great emptiness of flat land in the east of England. It contains only farmland for miles, punctuated occasionally by some pretty cool cities, like the one in which I live

Coweta, Oklahoma.

We had two guys who were brothers, born here in a town of less than seven thousand people. Each went and played in the NFL for several years, and retired to come back home and farm.

Yes, left the NFL to come back to Coweta, Oklahoma, and farm.

And, in my opinion, they made a good move.

Though I'm in Ottawa right now (enough people have talked about ontario) I lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia for a long time and plan to return after university.

Halifax is an absolutely beautiful city on the eastern coast. Opposed to larger cities, such as Ottawa, Toronto, or Montreal, the people are very friendly in that maritimer sense and regardless of it being the largest city east of Quebec City, you still get that feeling of closeness as though it were a small town. Favorite place I've ever lived (Vs Ottawa, Gatineau, Montreal, Brandon and Fredricton)
