I live near Chester, Birkenhead and Liverpool. Due to EU money, Liverpool now has a lovely city center, but everything around it is bad... very bad. Guns, knives, and chavs. Birkenhead is scummy, some of the buildings there don't look like they have been repaired since the Blitz...
I'm from the Wirral, Bebington Representin'

Not sure what to say about the surrounding area since this quote's pretty much spot on, but the Wirral itself is quite boring. Elvis Costello and Pete Burns were both born here, the local wildlife like to wear LaCoste and Adidas tracksuits. Some bits are okay, some are really shit.

Risca, near Newport, South Wales.

Risca was the main river and road system used by the Romans in this area, and then it was the main canal and road system for transporting the world's best coal (Welsh steam coal) to one of the world's most important dock at the time, Newport.

I live in Finland, Pello.

Pello is a nice little village in the north, in the county of Lapland - the home of reindeer and Santa Claus. (Santa doesn't come from Pello but he comes from Lapland!)

There are more reindeer here than people. Sami people also live in the northernmost parts of Lapland. In my village there lives about 4,200 people here. We get northern lights when it's midwinter and the weather can get as cold as -40 degrees Celsius. (It has been even -50 degrees sometimes) We have a lot of space here and I guess you could call this country side - as even my family raises some vegetables such as peas, potatoes and carrots; my neighbours raise reindeer and my grandparents used to own some livestock.

I suppose that gives you some image of this place. :)

I live in the nice city of Utrecht, in the Netherlands. It's kinda like mini-Amsterdam, in terms of architecture and general aesthetics. It's one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands (almost 2000 years old), I do believe it even started as a Roman military base a while back. Our biggest attraction is the Dom tower, as well as a really big church and monastery complete with a beautiful little garden. The coat of arms looks like this:
And can be found on pretty much every lightpost, fence and university building. It is now best known for its high population of university students, and a lot of educated famous Dutch people are alumni from the university of Utrecht. Right now the ratio of females to males of college age are about 60/40, and is getting more asymmetric by the year (score!). Student housing is a big issue right now, leading to high prices for room rental as well as bitchin big buildings constructed specifically to meet the demand, where the house parties are legendary.

Norfolk, Virginia: No-one knows where it is untill you say it is "Near Virginia Beach"
Interesting, Norfolk is a town? It's always been my default name in video games.

Anyway, I'm from Novato in Marin Country, California. Beautiful town, but boring and we aren't considered members of Marin County by the other towns as have much more open space and not as industrialized.
>_>. Yes it is a town. It has the biggest naval port in the world! I'm surprised no-one knows of it!
admitadly if you ask someone here in the UK they'll imediatly think of norfolk in the UK (You copycats)

OT: i'm from Birmingham in england, we have the most canals of any european city, including venice.

Alytus, Lithuania, not far away from Poland. A town with 60,000+ people, the least interesting town you'll visit. Which you won't, of course. As some lithuanian chap said, we belonged to the Soviets and the bastards left us dull gray apartment blocks and other boring buildings. Thanks, Russia. Nothing ever happened here, and nothing will.

Seriously, frigging roadsigns!? COME ON!
Fair enough. I had acctually forgotten that suggestion. God that thing's stupid.
"Because we should spend our money on signs, not useful stuff."
Makes you wonder: Why do they even care?
Whoever came up with that idea must be missing a brain. I can't see myself being offended if every single one of Mr Walkman was Miss, or Mrs Walkman. Some people just like to annoy and throw away time and money, I guess.

About prejudices, it's mostly 12 year old kids and drunken middle aged men who call the Swedes "qeers"/etc. Regular people(people with a strange neurological organ called "brains") usually like Sweden and Swedes. Ice hockey just brings out the drunken loudmouths.
You know, I heard a claim that there are those in Finland who dislike/hate Sweden because they used to be forced to learn swedish as it was the first hand language and because of the finish-swedes thinking themselves more swedish than swedish-swedes because they "atleast fought to be one".
Do you know if there's any truth in that, or is it just a false rumor?

It gets really fucking cold up here.
In which town if I may ask?
Swedish Pello.
Seriously? I live in Finnish Pello. I often go to Swedish Pello to the shops cos it's cheaper there... Wow.
Yeah, I don't spend that much time on the Finnish side though.
Well I don't blame you, there's nothing here... -_-;

I'm originally from Canton, OH, home of the Professional Football Hall of Fame. I lived there for 20 years, and I've only been there once. I've been to the McKinley Monument more times than I can count, only because it was just so fun tumbling down the hill. I always wanted to go sled riding there in the winter, but my mom or dad would never take me.

Then I lived in Columbus, OH for almost 10 years. Home of THE Ohio State. Oh yea, in before OSU is overrated. Yes, I know they are. But I have to say, the campus is damn nice, and I loved to walk it. Never been to a Columbus Crew game (soccer), Ohio State football game, or a Columbus Blue Jackets (hockey) game.

Columbus is also home to the Columbus Zoo, the most kickass zoo I've been to. It's not really fair to say that, since I've only been to three, the Cleveland Zoo, Pittsburgh Zoo, and the Columbus Zoo. But the other two weren't run by Jack Hanna, so they can't be nearly as awesome. If I still lived in Columbus, I'd have a season pass, I love that place that much.

Now I live in Salt Lake City, UT. Home to Mormons, the 2002 Winter Olympics, Mormons, Utah Jazz, and Mormons. I used to think I wouldn't want to live in any other city than Columbus, but I'm really starting to love it out here in Utah. When I went back to Ohio for a few weeks, it was weird not seeing mountains every where I looked.

When I got out here, I heard a lot of talk about how Temple Square (the site of the Salt Lake Temple) was the most beautiful place in Salt Lake City. I just thought it was a lot of Mormon propaganda, hyping the site of their main church, so I decided to go check it out. I found out, it wasn't. That place is amazing. I was especially impressed by the Tabernacle, and would love to head there during a performance, just to hear the acoustics of the place.
