Futurama, because everything about it is fucking awesome. Humor that gives even golden-age Simpsons a run for its money, extremely developed characters, handling drama with finesse, and airtight continuity. For someone who has always favored animation over live action, the first four seasons are a dream come true. It's one of the very things things out there that I could call "perfect".
Basically this in a nutshell!

If I had to pick another likely candidate though, I would have to go with either Arrested Development or the Office for their unique brand of off-color humor.

Father Ted, The best comedy show to come out of Ireland.

Absolutely amazing, and only four series long, it's pure concentrated genius.

Hate to be cliche but Death Note is the best show I've seen. If anime doesn't count I would say golden era Simpsons (Seasons 3-7).

Well, I can't narrow it down. Here are some by genre:

Cartoon - Futurama
CG - Reboot
SCI-FI - Stargate
Comedy - Whose Line is it Anyway?

...

That's a start. Also BSG and Firefly.

...

and Lost up until the last season.

Or look up a show called Community. It's well into its second season and funny as hell.
I'm gonna second this. It's consistently funny as hell but has some real depth to it's stories and characters.

TV? Wait you mean the other computer screen... I'll consider turning that thing back on once i have confirmation that Noel Edmonds is dead...

Scrubs maybe? I don't see the brilliance but it is good according to everyone but me

The Simpsons up to around season 13.

Just pure genius, every episode!

Though if you're looking for something less cartoonish, something with a developing storyline, Dexter is always awesome.

Lost. I cry like a little girl at virtually every episode.

Best. Show. EVAR.

I love Chuck also. Last season (3) was superb, and whilst the current one isn't quite as good (I suspect its the last) its still thoroughly enjoyable. Nothing else quite like it.

Honourable mentions include Archer and Misfits.

So those are all my recommendations.

Scrubs.

Do it. Do it right now. In fact, don't even read this sentence that I've put here to stop any wrath for low content, just go!
Never heard of it.

No show has ever made me laugh so hard. Ever.
I loved that show so much!

Monk

The single greatest show about an OCD Ex-cop featuring Ted Levine (Aka Buffalo Bill) as a police Captain you'll ever see!

It depends on what you want
for comedy, go south park or whose line is it anyway.
For scify, firefly is just awesome, as is the new Doctor who series. So is the old doctor who, if you have an appreciation for finely aged cheese.
For drama, go house and Dexter
for copdrama, Monk is superior.
For cartoons do Avatar the last airbender, the tick, the 90s X-Men, Conan the adventurer (if you can find it). Dont know how you feel about anime , but gurren lagaan is full of manlyness, coyboy bebop and fullmetal alchemist are awesome, and one piece is just plain fun.
