Telling people that enthusiasm is a bad thing is horrible advice.

And it does nothing to fix all of the so called "horrible" fandoms out there and all the obsessive hate for things that aren't something one likes.

Enthusiasm for something you like is a positive human emotion that the internet is generally lacking.

And many of the few times I hear actual, refreshing enthusiasm on the internet, it's often responded to as being loud, annoying, cancerous, autistic, obsessed, nerdy, and blah blah and ect. ect.

Only making the internet honestly a more horrible place, and driving people to talk about what they hate and hating other people instead of focusing on things they love. You've all seen it, claims like My Little Pony fans are obsessed, "Minecraft fans are all Autistic", "Pokemon fans are manchildren" and things like that.

I would like to just say that, liking things is a good thing, and there should be more people focused on excited talking about things they like on the internet, not less. Not blaming anyone here, I just kind of needed to say something like this, again. And I get the sad feeling that this is probably going to be my least loved thread on the site and everyone is going to think I'm really stupid and this is my dumbest thread yet.

But after spending a little time again browsing the internet and insulting each other over the dumbest things such as what they like in their free time, looking up several new video game communities to possible join, only to see people there calling each other schoolyard insults over what video games they like to play, and rallying around with disgust to big fans of pretty much anything calling them obsessed, just because they own every new release of a video game series or something, I just had to get this out there and off my chest that it's silly. Silly to waste all the benefits we get as first world citizens often with the benefit of being able to have free time to have fun, with such negative psychology.

"Emo" is a common insult on the internet, because people apparently don't like depressed people. But being against enthusiasm and joy and promoting hate between people over something as meaningless as hobbies isn't any better. And I am not joining about 5 possible video game communities to join today people everyone there seems miserable and angry over nothing.

People like this:

Be enthusiastic about what you love. We all should be. There, I feel better now. I'm going to post this topic now before I have too many second thoughts. I could have some more unflinching enthusiasm, myself. Believe me I do and I'm guilty just like many others of sinking into the negative energy everywhere.

Positive energy is awesome. And please don't kill me for making this thread. Oh please oh please.

What I heard: "Let's all be friends. Friendship is Magic!". It's the Pinkie Pie avatar. I'm sorry.

Whelp, time to derail this thread since it has no discussion value aside from flaming the OP.

Let's all talk about why we hate everyone else on the internet.

I hate everyone (Not actually EVERYONE) on the internet because they accept things at face value without doing any bit of research for themselves. Even when they have a Google toolbar just begging to be used. And multiple tabs. Bias is a thing, people! Use more than one source to get your information!

You're really stupid, and this is your worst thread yet >:O

j/k, but I don't think it's a matter of people being anti-enthusiasm. People just like to hop bandwagons. Everyone is pretty enthusiastic about Skyrim, for example. Other stuff like MW3 and MLP (or is it FIM? I never know which acronym to use) are popular hate targets.

I'm not sure where I would fall in this whole thing. I'm not shy about ripping apart games or music I find completely dreadful, but I don't attack the people that do enjoy them.

If nothing else, that was an amusing video. :)

I knew I loved My Little Pony for a reason. Aside from being a huge, enthusiastic fan of cuteness. It stands for everything that's not what's wrong with the internet. It's like some kind of internet chemo.

Glorious, glorious internet chemo.

In that it's so much better than other internet memes that used to be popular like raiding teenager email accounts with hate and sexual inappropriateness.

Ignore me, this isn't a thread about pony and I know many people here don't like or don't care anything about it.

I think I would rather lie to people. Because at least that way there's no pretense of trying to help them. Wait what is this thread about?

I have no idea what internet chemo is. Unless you mean like chemotherapy. Then...<insert rant about how you're being disrespectful to people with cancer>

And now your precious ponies are fighting. TO THE DEATH.

A lot of us on the internet seem to be exactly that, sadly.

I try to do the same. Though I think I'd make things personal if some one said they were a fan of Battlestar Galactica. Fuck, I hated that show so much.

You know that guy who just can't stop talking about his new girlfriend? The guy who just tells you about EVERYTHING they do, down to the minutest detail, during every waking moment. The guy who, even when you don't ask, will gladly launch into a series of endless anecdotes that all begin with "My girlfriend and I..." and all end with "Oh man, I love her so much." And he's totally oblivious to how annoyed everyone around him is.

Yeah. That sort of enthusiasm isn't necessarily bad, but it's certainly not healthy for you or your other friendships. That sort of enthusiasm can quickly lead to a kind of contempt that nobody can live with for long. So no, enthusiasm isn't bad, but like any strong emotion it's best shared in small doses, an eye always needs to be kept on how exhausted everyone else around is with it.

As do I. It's another annoying meme that has popped up to degrade people with. For instance, the entire Minecraft fandom, trying to devalue them by calling them Autistic.

It's just like when people say something like "that's so gay", except directed at Autistic people instead of gay people.

True enough, but a lot of people try to claim the moral high ground by claiming to not dislike the subject and blaming the enthusiasm. That's when you hear the "stop ramming it down our throats" line.

It's kind of hard to take those people seriously in most cases, though.

It's like the people saw 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' in a title thread, and instead of just ignoring it (As it's one small thread in a sea of others), they deliberately go into it to saw 'ANOTHER PONY THREAD? STOP SHOVING IT IN OUR FACES.' then proceed to make a thread about why there are so many Pony threads just as it stops, but since that itself is a Pony thread, it leads rise to more Pony threads.

If it really bothers them that much, they must be rather masochistic, no?

Well, that explains the Pinkie Pie avatar.
That is does. Enthusiasm is infectious.

If it weren't for my love of tomboy characters in fiction, Pinkie Pie would be my favourite pony.

I'm not as good at being enthusiastic as I used to be. But I love seeing it in other people.
So...your favorite pony is Rarity, then?
