Telling people that enthusiasm is a bad thing is horrible advice.

j/k, but I don't think it's a matter of people being anti-enthusiasm. People just like to hop bandwagons. Everyone is pretty enthusiastic about Skyrim, for example. Other stuff like MW3 and MLP (or is it FIM? I never know which acronym to use) are popular hate targets.
Well, I don't understand why people enjoy paying $60 a year for a 4 hour campaign and unbalanced multiplayer, and I don't understand why people enjoy watching a childrens show about ponies. I don't think its as much hopping on the bandwagon as it is legitimately not understanding the appeal of something.

I really like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and I have never been insulted for liking it. Would you like to know my secret? I DON'T GO ON ABOUT IT AS IF IT IS MY GODDAMN RELIGION!!! I seriously wish the "bronies" would shove a sock in it and go sit in the corner until they calm the hell down.

I could go on, but Lilani put it much better than I possibly could.

Ignore me, this isn't a thread about pony and I know many people here don't like or don't care anything about it.
But it IS about ponies. It's in the first line of the OP!

That's the perfect description of the anti-ponysts. And the whole talk about enthusiasm? That's pretty typical for ponyfans.

Plus, pinky pie. Come on. This IS about ponies. At least to a certain degree ;)

What I heard: "Let's all be friends. Friendship is Magic!". It's the Pinkie Pie avatar. I'm sorry.

Whelp, time to derail this thread since it has no discussion value aside from flaming the OP.

Let's all talk about why we hate everyone else on the internet.

I hate everyone (Not actually EVERYONE) on the internet because they accept things at face value without doing any bit of research for themselves. Even when they have a Google toolbar just begging to be used. And multiple tabs. Bias is a thing, people! Use more than one source to get your information!
(Sad face) but I like research... you're mean for making sweeping generalizations innocent people can get caught up in.
(Grinny face) Sooooo... do you have and sources or data to back that up?
(Thinky face) Consider this... a large chunk of people in real life, in schools, in colleges, in positions of political power even, do the same thing. So is it people on the internet, or just THOSE people?
(Serious face) actually, I do have a thing against people who either can't take a joke, or feel they need to argue and nitpick about things that don't even matter. For example...
(Politeness removed for brevity and hilarity.)
THREAD ABOUT A VERY RACIST RACIST'S RACISM
A: I'm from Britain. I'm half American. I don't want my Dad to "go home."
B: You can't say that! American is not an ethnicity! I'M CONFUSED!
Me: Gives definition pointing out that ethnicity is very, very close to nationality, as well as link. Continues to comment on topic.
B: THAT ANSWERS NOTHING! I SAID "American" is NOT an ethnic group, so is he like German, or Navajo, or Egyptian or what?

It's still different to not understand the appeal vs. to tell someone they should hate it because you hate it because of this, this, this, and this.
The OP's point is it's better to discuss the things you do like, or ask others what specific things they like and maybe try to understand why they like it. I think that is a good and righteous goal, but maybe a little too mature for the internet.

Not understanding and going around hating are two different things :\

If I was going around hating I would say that both COD and MLP fan bases are both extremely immature, and could find out that there are infinitely better alternatives in their respective genres in about 2 minutes. But that is hypothetical =P.

I would like someone to explain the appeal of MLP or COD. There are better cartoons and better FPSes. Team Fortress 2 gets more content yearly then COD does, and TF2 is free. And while I would prefer south park to MLP any day, I would rather watch the walking dead or terra nova then either of them.

Dude, thread necro

I didn't say you were going around hating. I'm just saying that your stance on the subject (not understanding the appeal) is not relevant to the hate bangwagon I referred to earlier. :\

Unless you're trying to make the claim that the MW3/MLP hater bangwagon doesn't exist, I'm not sure what your point is.

Sorry about that.
The hate bandwagon is there because people hate on stuff that is new, and stuff that is popular. There is nothing that WRONG with either COD or MLP, but there is BattleField and SouthPark.

I agree, but in the end, what are you going to do about it? The internet is way too big to be constantly monitored and changed. In fact, it might as well be considered a planet, where each domain is a different continent, filled with 'citizens' just waiting to live their lives. What makes this planet any different from the planet we live on now? Absolutely zero consequences. If you want to keep a highly enthusiastic view on the internet, and the world in general, try to understand that the majority of these people say the things they say because they are not fearful of the idea of consequences. Get banned from a community website? Not a problem. Make a new account!

Just how I see it. People on the internet exploit the idea of no consequences to the point of having very little morals and respect.

I've seen it happen to the best game communities.

the minecraft forums used to be great. Now it's filled with people whining about everything, people whining against the whiners, and a few rare non-hate threads that are soon forgotten.

The Sanctum community used to be awesome. Then the devs announced that they would start offering paid DLC in addition to the occaisional free DLC. The forums exploded with whiners going "NO IZ NOT FAER!", which persisted for a good while. Now it's back to normal.

And don't get me STARTED on the sonic fandom....

I understand that a lot of people will dislike something, and some may be VERY vocal about it. I accept and welcome that. But I hate when the hate gets out of control, and all you see are non-stop hate threads where both sides keep flaming each other to hell. I agree that there needs to be more positive energy.

Enthusiasm for something you like is a positive human emotion that the internet is generally lacking.

Be enthusiastic about what you love. We all should be. There, I feel better now. I'm going to post this topic now before I have too many second thoughts. I could have some more unflinching enthusiasm, myself. Believe me I do and I'm guilty just like many others of sinking into the negative energy everywhere.

Positive energy is awesome. And please don't kill me for making this thread. Oh please oh please.
There is no truth but the vagaries of the conqueror worm. The uncaring universe cares not for us and your enthusiasm will be washed away in the seas of infinite chaos.

Sorry, I've been reading too much Lovecraft lately. :)

OT: Stifling enthusiasm is a bad thing, true. Sometimes, however, it can become necessary to redirect said enthusiasm when it becomes attached to something bad (insert any number of bad political rant jokes here).

I still don't understand your point. I'm just saying that hate bandwagons exist for MW3 and MLP. Not making judgments about them or speculating where they come from :|

It is because of people opposing what others hold dear and love that we have certain silly internet memes. Certain memes such as:
