On my windows XP, I started getting alerts that my hard drive space was running dangerously low, I checked and Temporary files were taking up over half the disk space. I had thought that the computer was supposed to get rid of those when it was done. Any ideas on what is going on?

(And yes, I manually deleted the files.)

temporary files are temporary files.
however depending on your settings it can take quite a while before there deleted ( if at all ).
anyway, it might be the case that you using some or all parts of those files and they might not get deleted for a month ( depending on settings ).

anyway, just delete them, no problem with that.

or, your computer might have suffered a crash and lost some of the data to remind it to delete these files after a while.

another option could be that a program puts them in there manualy without intent of deleting them.becaus as long as it's not in the windows/temp folder, it won't get deleted automaticly.

so... from which map did you delete them?

I understand the the computer should delete them after a certain period of time, what I'm saying is that mine didn't. And yes, they were in the windows/temp folder.

What do you mean "from which map"?

Two things that should be regular maintence.

disk Defrag. Type defrag into your computer search bar and it should pop up.

disk cleanup. type cleanup into your computer search bar and it should pop up.

Both will speed you computer up without deleting anything(incredibly important) but yes after that you should delete word files that are 5 years old and such they will most likely stay there for a very long fucking time before they turn into mush which is probably 5 years.

TO answer your other question I think your deleting a plug in. You'd think it would be easy to find what software youtube uses but no of course not. But i'm drunk so I'm not exactly looking hard. To make it simple stay away from java and adobe files when you delete or at least files that makes those files work. Its something your deleting over and over that is making this happen if your able to access youtube later after re-downloading a plug in or some shit.

ah sorry, meant to say folder.
many programs also tend to put temporary files/foldes in/between your user settings.

as for why it's not being deleted, i can't know without more detail.

in all technicality, you should do a lot more to keep your computer in top condition.
Anti virus scan, anti Malware scan, anti spyware scan, driver updating, changing the virtual memmory to another disk, disable unneeded startup programs and services ( MSconfig), make the inside dust free.

Just delete 'em. If they were important, they wouldn't be temp files. If they're somehow needed for something, they'll usually recreate themselves.
