The premise is simple, gentlewomen and genitally blessed others - Have you recently been tempted to buy something completely worthless and pointless? Have you succumbed and bought it? How much of a money sink was it?

I recently got a new phone, and it came with a discount code for custom phone cases that are way too expensive - 35 bucks. All the same, I decided to check it out, and I've suddenly become fascinated by the idea. It's sucked me in, and I don't think I can escape. And I've been dicking with it all day.

OP, as an old Battletech nerd I adore those first two cases you posted. I always liked House Steiner and House Kurita in different ways.

I personally feel you should resist the urge to purchase any of them in favor of purchasing one of the many unlicensed Spinal Tap phone cases. Because when people ask "how much more black could this phone case be", the answer should be "none more black".

OT: I spend way too much money Kickstarting board games, under the (technically correct) logic that if I don't, the game will cost an arm and a leg to own later because of the secondary market on Kickstarter exclusives. Of course, I could just ebay them and claim my profits, but we all know THAT's never gonna happen. Hundreds of dollars every few months, on games I don't think I'll be playing in the forseeable future, with a further commitment to purchase board game sleeves to protect my "investment". It's a dark and slippery slope I walk.

On a related note: Join me in my madness! Rum and Bones: Second Tide and Ghostbusters: the Board Game 2 are both doing there best to make sure what should really be a retirement fund is completely flammable.
At the very least, here's the video for the latter. I think they might have gone a bit overboard on the production budget, but I think it's noteworthy to view even if only to see Ernie Hudson standing as living proof that "black don't crack".

Ignoring the suspicion that AT might possibly have been taken over by the lizardmen and is now stealthily shilling phone caes made by the mole people(points for the SoB choice), this fuckin thing because I just want it and it'll go great for a daytrip to the middle of assfuck nowhere to recharge drone batteries/batteries in general and such at a campsite for one of those days I want to get some bitching footage. Basically power a small campsite for a day or three because nature. It'd go great with this other fuckin thing for ultimate lazymode and totally ignoring the point of being in the middle of nowhere in the first place.

All of this is very long thought out justification on me using these things and do not even get me started on stuff like things I could actually use right now. It'd be enough to have an entire thread on it with just me posting.

Due to some bullshit I'm currently not working, which means we're kinda broke. When I was working full time I had money but I didn't really want to buy much. Now I'm not working I want to buy all the things.

Right now I'm super into organisation so I want a cute planner, and lovely things to decorate it with.

I also need to buy some storage stuff to sort out my bathroom, but that's not as exciting. I'm making use of pinterest at the moment so I can pin all the stuff I want so when I'm working again I don't forget all the things I wanted when I was in this phase of being really thirsty for material things.

Well on the one hand I do buy a lot of Lego. Like, a lot of Lego, getting-sideways-looks-from-my-housemate-because-he-thinks-I-might-be-a-hoarder levels of Lego.
But on the other hand I'm constantly building and tinkering with the stuff. I'm repeatedly enjoying what I have, so is it useless? And given the value of Lego has a better staying power than goddamn gold these days might be I'm sitting on a tidy little nest egg, for putting future kids through University or maybe living a bit more comfortably in my retirement or what have you. So it could be pretty useful later down the line. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it damnit!

I feel you on that. I almost dropped 110 bucks on the Dark Souls game. But then I remembered that the only friend I know who would want to play it with me lives 1000 miles away, and I can't paint for shit so I couldn't even use the figures as desk vanity items.

I was more thinking along the line of items that you feel a compulsion to buy, even though you don't really want it because it's pointless, or you know it's just going to sit in the garage. Where your logical mind comes into conflict with your impulse mind on a purchase.

Guns. I'd only ever use the things for target shooting, but some of them are very pretty and have cool history behind them. Basically, it's another hobby to throw on my massive pile of hobbies.

I bought all the Fire Emblem amiibo, even though I can't use them with any games. I don't play Smash, so that one is out and while I do have compatible games on the 3DS, I only have a old 3DS bought at launch. Now there just sitting there, being somewhat overpriced figures. I just liked the idea of having some Fire Emblem merchandise, I guess...

Aside from that I'm always on the look-out for cute socks. I have tiny feet, meaning I can still wear stuff made for 10-year-old girls, which gives me a lot of options. I bought three pairs of My Little Pony socks a few weeks ago, just because I really wanted some My Little Pony socks when I was like four, but they didn't sell them back then. Besides, the Friendship is Magic designs are super cute. And while I do wear them, nobody is going to see me do so because I wear boots most of the time. I could just buy regular socks in boring colours like a normal adult, but that's boring. I'd rather pay a little more to have something I really like.
