Terraria devs take down satirical review, act childish.

Something quite interesting seems to be going on today.

There's this site called The Best Gamers, right? http://thebestgamers.net/ is their address. It's an obvious satirical site, where they make exaggerations of game reviews you'd expect from cap wearing, beer swilling, Call of Duty playing 'brogamer' douchebags.

Their most recent one is of Terraria. What's interesting though is that their Youtube version of the review was forcibly taken off the site, by a copyright claim from the Terraria devs themselves! However, this seems to have only drawn MORE attention to the review. The Streisand Effect in action.

Call me crazy, but I think satire is allowed under copyright. And although this doesn't affect the quality of their game, it does show how childish they can be I think. It's not like anyone else is acting like this. Heck, to give a recent example, when Minecraft was reviewed Notch favourited it and linked it on his Twitter!

What are your thoughts on this?

Meh. I don't particularly care to be honest, they've given me a fantastic game, I've no interest in the devs beyond that.

What did the review say?
Basically a lot of blustering about how it's ripping off Minecraft and how it sucks. This is what passes for 'satire' these days? I do like me some angry sarcasm, but the guy in the review stumbles through his lines (if any of this was re-hearsed at all) and makes little attempt at humor.

Some people take the internet seriously & they may not notice how accurate or exaggerated a review actually is.
I'm not surprised they wanted it taken down. It's a new release and they understandably want better press and representation.

Heh, I imagine it was taken down for being painfully unfunny then. =P

The worst part is, I think that his monotone mumbling was pat of the act.

Quick question, what does Terraria make? I've never heard of them to be completely honest. Censorship is always bad.

Seems pretty silly of them to have it taken down, especially under the grounds of copyright..

And then devolves into a personal attack on the developer at the end, which is probably why it was taken down.

A lot of the points the reviewer about the game are hit or miss (though some points are quite insightful), and he seems unsure as to whether he is doing a satire or a critique.

To me it was perfectly obvious why the video was taken down. They probably wouldn't have taken down the review if the guy making the review wasn't being such an ass hole at the end and made fun of the developper, and what he does. I honestly couldn't care less tho if this review was taken down 'cause to me their humor is fucking terrible :/

I seriously hope this entire site is meant to be a joke. If not they could possibly be the biggest assholes on the planet.

Yes, satire is protected speech. It's why it's bullshit when abridgers get banned on copyright claims.

There was some satire in it, barely funny though. It was also filled with lies. Slimes aren't the only enemy in the game. And it's got like, four things in common with Minecraft.

I would have had it removed too.

You presume it was the devs of the game that demanded it be taken down. Fans of the game are rabid at best and YouTube rarely checks out if there's a valid copyright claim anyways.
