I am wondering which to get. Not just for building, but overall enjoyment. Minecraft undoubtably has the superior building mechanics, but Terraria has better art, and actual game elements in it. I would be getting both, regardless, just not sure which to get first.

If you want more of a game, rather than a creative sand box, go with Teraria.

It has so much more to offer in terms of actual gameplay. More monsters, items and inventory space XD

Well, it depends. Minecraft is a building game with survival elements, and Terraria is a survival game with building elements.

If you want to play Legos, and if building something grand is something you really want to do, I'd buy Minecraft first. If you want something that feels more like an mini-RPG in 2D get Terraria first.

Minecraft for sandbox fun, Terraria if you want more actual gameplay.

Flip a coin, I guess.

This sums it up nicely.
I have both, but I'm more of a 'Lego' guy, so I can't really get into Terraria.
But I love Minecraft!

So it all boils down to what you want in a game.

Gah, I just noticed the terrible mistakes in my sentence. I edited my original, but it's too late, it's been quoted already. lol

terraria is for surviving
minecraft is for building

personally i prefer terraria because its more heavily combat and crafting and has NPCs
while minecraft without mods is a simple but deep building system

they both have major benifits in their own way minecraft to me is for building while terraria is for exploring minecraft has mods terraria has the ability to move your charactor from one world to another they both are fun and I own them both it is really just a matter of what your looking for.

On a side not My computer has a much easier time with terraria

Both are really fun. I'd get Minecraft.

You can "finish" Terraria in a couple of hours if you want (took me a few days). The start's the best part for me. So it's worth a few play throughs. But I wouldn't create a large world. It feels too big and kinda ruins it.

I like Minecraft, but it gets boring if you're not good at building beautiful looking things. And there's plenty of mods for it.

Yeah, as has been said quite a bit of times.
Minecraft is great as a sandbox game, to just bugger around in and see what you can build/do etc. Though I have to say, I enjoy minecraft more with certain mods than without. I basically built everything I wanted with hard work and all, but I couldn't be bothered continuing after getting diamond and making some good stuff, getting a nether portal... and... well... yay... that was it. so I just explore mods to have a better goal to work on in minecraft.

In terraria there is a clearer goal, there's bosses you can fight, there's places to explore where different stuff can be found and you need better gear to actually fight harder bosses. Also reading in the terraria updates there will probably be new zones to go to (which are harder and have better rewards etc.) it's less of a sandbox and more RPG-ish. Where the building has a clear function in the game and adds to the gameplay, but it's not about building the biggest stuff (though it certainly is a possibility).

eventually it comes down to what you prefer yourself.

I'd take Minecraft over Terraria any day. Mostly because I find Terraria to be sluggish with it's controls and overall ugly when it comes to graphics/art style, while I love Minecraft.

And I'm surprised no Notch fan said that Terraria is a rip-off of Minecraft, but that's not what we're talking about.

Personally,I prefer Terraria because it's easier to play on my computer than Minecraft.
well... I'd say it isn't being said because it isn't a rip-off of minecraft... it has some of the same elements, but it's a completely different game, which uses the building mechanic from a different angle and with a different goal in mind. so yeah...

I wouldn't say Terraria has better art. Maybe if you compare just the basic games. But the texture packs available for minecraft give it more variety so you can customize the look you want.

Yeah, but there are idiots out there who think that Terraria ripped off Minecraft, even thought Notch said that he liked the game and it wasn't a rip-off. Go figure.
yeah... there's always people who do that, be glad that they're not here right now =] I'm sure they'll arrive soon enough ^^

Basically the important things have already been said. Minecraft is the builder with more depth (pun intended) and Terraria is a RPG with a LOT more "game" to it. My money is on Terraria. They update VERY frequently and just like Minecraft their ideas come directly from the fans on their site. The updates are as frequent as every 2 or so weeks. They are on their 6th update already.

Terraria is just more of a game, and I feel like the developers give it much more support than Mojang give their games. Every couple of weeks or so there are huge updates with many new items and monsters, while Minecraft updates come maybe every month with an extremely small amount of content (Usually, the next update looks like it'll be really good).
