Alexander the Great. He was a murderous bastard, but he spread Greek culture all over the world, and helped to pave the way for the renaissance.

Genghis Khan and Hittles.Sure, one unites a world and the other destroys it but a formidable enemy is one you respect. To do otherwise is stupid and warrants underestimation on the part of the idiot.
Genghis Khan? Really? He achieved the destruction of China's greatest era, and murdered something like thirty/forty million people.

The one thing going for him was that he was a brutally effective commander; an ability that his grandson lacked entirely.

Fidel Castro holds a special place in my heart. However Joseph Stalin, Adolph Hitler, Kim Jong Il, and Alexander the Great, who have been mentioned regularily in this thread, I frankly do not respect at all. Butchers of the world, and of their own people. Though I give props to Genghis Khan, until his son fucked everything up.
Grandson. his son was actually reasonably capable.
Well, the topic did say terrible people did it not?Even then,he did it for his people.

adolf hitler. he was a lunatic and a racist engineer of genocide, but he had an iron will that all politicians today lack. there is not a man alive today who could drag a country from a debt ridden scrap heap into a power that demolished 90% of europe and had the soviet union shaking in its boots, in the space of about 15 years ( i forget how long he was actually in power).

the westborough baptist church. not for their total lunacy, but because they are the only christian denomination to follow the bible TO THE LETTER. i despise religion with a passion, but this one at least has no members who try a stealthy approach to outsiders and show their foul religion for what it truly is.

TO BE HONEST, IM NOT SURE THATS EVEN RESPECT. ID SAY ITS MORE A GLADNESS THAT THEY EXIST AND SHOW CHRISTIANITY FOR WHAT IT IS IN ITS HEART.

its ironic that the people we despise the most often have the greatest achievements.

Charlie Sheen. Can't help but respect a man who's so winning.

And Prof. Oak, sending 10 years olds out into the wild on their own to actively seek out dangerous monsters. But you gotta admire his commitment to his research.

Hitler. If he wasn't a bigot, he would possibly be the greatest leader ever.
NEIN NEIN NEIN!

If I hear someone say this again my head may just explode! Haha.

That's a huge myth. Hitler made many, many unrepairable awful leadership errors and was certainly not the best man for the job.
In terms of war, genocide, and racism yes. But he had died in say 1930 he would probably be considered the among greatest people in modern history.
Not Really... All of his economic policies were basically ridiculous short term gambits, most of which actually REQUIRED the country to operate under police state conditions or constantly be at war (and we all know how that ultimately turned out...) Other than that one time with Chamberlain, he was a complete moron when it came to foreign policy aswell.

Definitely Adolf Hitler. Doesn't get much more terrible than that but you do have to admit it takes a special kind of person to unite a battered nation to take over the world and convince them to kill millions of innocent civilians in the process.

Because it's topical, Fred Phelps.

Here's a man who knows his law, knows how to remain within it (much to the ire of so many, many people), and knows when to sue the shit out of some law-ignorant halfwits assault and threaten him.

The man is Bible-thumping scum, but he's BRILLIANT Bible-thumping scum.

(Incidentally, if someone wants to duke it out with me, don't do it here; PM me or take it to the Westboro thread.)

Muslim extremists. I hate them and they'll hopefully be extinct soon enough but the guys have balls of steel and the conviction to match. Name another group who claims to be badass that would fly a plane into a landmark of the most powerful nation of the world, the nation with the twitchiest trigger finger in the world and the next day broadcast worldwide "yeah we did it, WHAT??" The bloods, the crypts, mara salvatrucha, 18th street gang the mexican mafia? No. The best those terrorist groups can come up with is "stop snitching." Gotta respect muslims extremists, they're fighting tanks, jets, apaches and predator drones with nothing but scarves and rpgs from the 60's.

inb4 hitler troll

I really can't think of anyone at the moment. Maybe that commando guy from Avatar.
He tried so hard :'(

Maybe a movie about a villain that's awesome, like black beard, billy the kid, etc.
Possibly Charlie Sheen. He lives life to the fullest.

Right now I have to do a research paper on a person or an event during WWII. So I chose Joseph Stalin,(I always liked Russian culture so I chose something dealing with Russia) now he wasn't exactly a great guy with the killings of his own people and others as well, but damn I respect the guy. Just the stuff he did, I think wow that is respectful-ish.

So who or what is a terrible person you respect. Real life, movies, games, etc. just name it.
This thread exists mainly to generate bans right?

Richard the Lionheart gets my vote. Almost psychopathic in disposition, and executed a lot of prisoners while on Crusade, but he was a hell of a general.

I can't believe that for all the people who brought up Hitler, no one actually mentioned the main thing that Hitler should be respected for.

He may have been insane, ruthless and genocidal, but he sure was one hell of a snappy dresser.

Say what you like, that was a fine looking Reich.

I must ask...elaborate on what terrible things Gandhi did?
O_O

Please do. I'm curious myself.
Well, he molested children, beat his wife and was incredibly racist.
What?

Ok, that demands a source. But I hope you're kidding.
What do you mean source?

It's common knowledge!
Common knowledge? About Gandhi? Huh. Where can I read about that?
