Well thats sad to hear, I love TES series, but they won't spend that time with their thumbs up their backsides we should expect another Fallout or maybe even a new IP, most likely however it will be Fallout 4.

I thought Bioware made Kotor?
They made the first one, the second was made by Obsidian, either way it doesn't relate to what he is saying.

The death of KOTOR?

First, BioWare made KOTOR.

Second, if you're refering to TOR, you obviously haven't seen "The Voice Of The Old Republic" video. Go watch it. You'll see that KOTOR is alive, kicking, and better than ever.

I don't remember Bethesda ever making a bad game. Let's trust them on this one.
While I fundamentally agree, they do have a track record for releasing very buggy games that required a lot of patching/3rd-party modification (Daggerfall especially) - I'm not sure how well they would handle an MMO, considering companies with far better track records on the ole 'bug front' generally still have their MMO launches accompanied by a slew of problems.

For some reason I'm optimistic about it.

Well to be fair on the bug front there games are MASSIVE so really the bug thing isn't so bad.

It will either be the best MMO ever, or the worst TES ever.

Time will tell.
Having to actually fight your battles would make it interesting if it's anything like Oblivion. The block-strike fighting style requires you to be actually there. Then again the kill everything approach of some gamers will mean that new players will die ten seconds in when a maxed out archer picks them off as they leave the prison sewers for the first time. I know, because I'll be that archer.

An Elder Scrolls MMO would be a monumentally bad idea. I suspect that most of the people who play Morrowind and Oblivion do so because the world isn't filled with complete fucking idiots. Even Oblivion's awful AI is still an improvement on the real people who play World of Warcraft.

EDIT: That said, there are a few things that would convince me to play an Elder Scrolls MMO, all of which are so far outside the realm of traditional MMORPG design (apart from maybe Puzzle Pirates) that they would never happen:

- A fully (and I do mean FULLY) player-driven economy. Being a shopkeeper or running a persistent-world answer to Morrowind's East Empire Company, where one player does crafting, selling, and administration and others go into raw material mines and the like should be the backbone. I'm aware that most people don't want to be Maro Rufus.

- None of this "you are all chosen" crap. It should be as free-form and open as a single-player Elder Scrolls game. If I want to start a group of raiders/marauders/bandits and hang out in caves preying on unsuspecting (or fully suspecting, perhaps as in the above scenario about merchants and private armies) folks, then I should be able to. Stealing (or crafting) gear without the use of cities should be an option.

- A deep factions system. Like Morrowind or Daggerfall deep. Give me all the major guilds and balance them so that not everyone becomes the Dark Brotherhood or Thieves' Guild. Set it up so that a real rivalry can exist between, say, the Fighters Guild and the Dark Brotherhood as one hunts the other.

- And while we're at it, just make Elder Scrolls V.

Guys... READ the article before you comment...

"We are working on our next big game but we are not talking about it." Don't look a new Elder Scrolls game in the near future; Howard said there are no current plans for an "Elder Scrolls 5."
No big news there, the last official word about TES5 was "Don't hold your breath".

As far as an Elders Scrolls based MMO, he said in jest, "There's always a chance."
For six letters, two words up there are MASSIVE.

IN JEST. As in "not being serious". He's basically said "Well... we COULD do it, but we won't".

No more Fallout DLC is a shame, Mothership Zeta just didn't feel like a rightful ending for me.

This.

He said "there's a chance" that there will be an MMO.

So probably not.
I'm crossing my fingers, because I too don't want to pay monthly for a game that I paid good money for.

They couldn't make any more, at least for the 360. There's some arbitrary achievement limit for a game (1000 for the core, like 1700 with all DLC included), and I doubt they'd leave out that group of fans.

Didn't he say "there's only a chance" ? Sorry, I skimmed it a bit until I saw TES but still, just seems like a jokey, throw away comment. No need to be hysterical.

Having said that, the KOTOR MMO was a complete p*ss take from LA. Everyone demands KOTOR 3, so what do they do? Make a MMO set 300 years after with no relation to the unfinished storyline, fanf*ckingtastic.

Now, if the MMO is successful, it might kill the franchise (WOW) but if it isn't that successful, they'll keep making more games based off the series (Final Fantasy)

I thought the new IP was handled by a third-party studio. Nobody's said a word about what Bethesda Game Studios is actually up to right now. Could be TES5, could be Fallout 4, could be something completely out of left field, but I've yet to hear anything about what the design studio (as opposed to the publisher) is working on.
