Religion and law should never meet. Those jurors should have been thrown out of the court room instantly the second they consult to a religous source to determine a mans fate. What if that man wasn't religous? Then the bible shouldn't be used to determine his fate. Hell even if he was religous the bible shouldn't have been used.

We have laws for a reason get your head out of your ass, this isn't the dark ages here.

Don't get me wrong though I still would've said death/life in jail but do not base your descision off of religion.

Here's my philosophy on murder: "An eye for an eye." If you take a life for anything other than self-defense, yours should be taken as well.
Isn't that the Bible's? Pretty sure i heard that from the bible or Koran or some shit like that.

All tho i do agree with you.
No that would be Hammurabi's code

However, a federal appeals court ruled last year that while the Bible should not have been allowed into the deliberation room at Oliver's trial, there was no clear evidence to indicate they had influenced the jurors' decision.
Yes, it was used, but did they determine the verdict entirely based on the Bible? Probably not. Why? Because, if they had already accepted that he killed the guy, why would they really have troubles determining whether he was guilty or not?

Who cares if the Bible was used (this is coming from an Atheist)? The guy deserves it anyway does he not?
Have you read the bible? Read these parts: http://www.thebricktestament.com/the_law/index.html

What does the Bible have to do with anything? A man beat an innocent to death with the butt of a rifle - a cruel and violent death for sure. He probably would have been put to death whether a Bible was preasent during the deliberations or not. Why should the people pay to keep such a violent person fed, clothed, and housed for the remainder of his life? Just kill him already and be done with it.

Should be put to death anyway.

And Texas and Montana have always thought of themselves as their own nations.

America is a judeo-christian based society, I don't think it's a big deal if people consult a religious book to consult because they probably feel that it's not their place to judge and if they are punishable under the word of God then they can make a conscious decision (isn't that the job of the jury anyways, to make a conscious decision of the perpetrator committing the crime after all the evidence has been laid out?). I don't think they used the Bible as evidence as much as the jurors used it to consult on the punishment of the crime which was pretty much death in my mind.

Beating someone to death, as far as I know, is something punishable by execution.
Just because the jurors had their bibles does not mean the burgler should get to escape his fate, or that they necessarily made the wrong call.
Exactly, Texas is one of the few states that actively uses the deat penalty. A murder by beating is one of the most brutal kinds. The fact that a Bible was in the jurors hands has nothing to do with the fact that state law was brought into use.

Hey, uh, jurors? Jewish law from the Old Testament is just that... OLD! It doesn't hold up in modern law!

I say this as a Christian who is really sick of modern people using obsolete, harsh laws from an harsh, ancient era!

Like people have said. Sentenced to death anyway. And jurors should be blacklisted and removed. Freedom of State and religion is something I take very seriously

It's a point of principle, its not whether you think he should be killed or not its whether its permissible to use the Bible. If it just slides here and everyone finds it permissible, then what happens in two weeks times when some crazy parents try to get their children stoned and its deemed lawful because it says they can in the Bible. Are they just going to look back and say "Well, we put a man to death a few weeks ago because the Bible said we could, so we should stone the child."
