Professor Layton would be too hard for a 9yo. Any Zelda would be good, or Final Fantasy.

Zork is pretty text heavy, so you could totally look into that!
Man, I was playing Zork at 9. Failing miserably, but I was playing Zork nonetheless. But yeah, I would say that Animal Crossing gets my vote.

im a firm beleiver in not getting "kid" games for kids. give em some quality shit, and remember they arent so terribly fragile that they should be sheltered from anything fun... with that in mind, here are my reccomendations:

theres always the baulders gate series, i played the first one at 9, great games, VERY text heavy and if shes a nerd you will get hugs, or shunning in favor of a new life in front of the computer. it IS based on second edition D&D. so thats its major achilles heel.

diablo, turn it to either text only or subtitles and text. its not the MOST text heavy, but remember, reading EVERY single item you pick up is definitely something.

and by "suitable for a 9 year old girl to play" what do you mean? do you mean "no teletubbies, and at least three mad serial rapists that rip out their victims brains and smear them on the walls afterwards while you watch-per level, definitely a requirement" or "butterflies and rainbows, must be animated-and looney toons is out, because theyre WAY too violent, and it cant have any lieing/alcahol use."

I'm finding it hard to say no fervently enough. I can only assume you don't know very many little girls, an assumption based not only on your suggestions but on the fact that you had to ask what I meant by "suitable for a 9-year-old girl".

It reduced my big brother to tears.

It's rated E, sure, but a lot of the puzzles are absolutely vicious.
