You may not know about the Saxxy happened a few days ago and one of the winners was a dota 2 video. apparently a bunch of TF2 fanboys decided to spammers account with reports until the account was suspended.

(sorry it's only reddit links I couldn't find an official Article about it)

so what do you guys think about this whole mess? Personally I never thought that tf2 community could be this much of asshats. I thought it was a cool fandom but apparently I was wrong.

ps. sorry for poor spelling.

Hmm, when I played tf2, everyone seemed kind of nice. It was a casual game, so there wasn't the people with huge egos like in CS and Dota. The forums often had alot of whining about OP classes though.

I don't know enough about the fandom nowadays, but I'm assuming it's either a bunch of trolls or kids causing the problem. Since tf2 has become free to play and crappy laptops can run it, the amount of immature teenagers has probably increased.

Now that I think about it, the tf2 community hasn't been the most mature. I remember the Halocaust, when people were whining that they had their hats deleted because the used an idling script. They really wanted to believe they were victims for using third party programs, uh huh sure.

Do we know the ages of the people that spammed? I mean being spiteful jerks isn't gated off to adults.

OT: I am kinda surprised. If only due to not knowing that you could enter DotA vids as well. Kinda defeats the point of Saxxy in my mind unless they're rebranding it to "any valve IP" which they might be doing. Or at least anything done in Source Filmmaker.

Here's a link to the video if anyone cares.

Gotta ask though, why was a dota2 short entered into a tf2 short competition? And why did it win? I mean it's not a bad video but it seems kinda out of place I guess?

Still apart from that, I just think youtube needs to fix up their reporting system.

What the H is a Saxxy?
A Saxxy is Valve's yearly set of awards for Source Engine movies, it started off being purely TF2 and has remained mostly TF2 focused but you can use assets from any of Valve's games especially in Source Filmmaker. The ones that people made before Source Filmmaker were good as well though.

A couple of years ago Valve opened up the competition to any video made with their game assets, Half Life, Dota or Team Fortress assets can all be used in the contest. But it's traditionally a TF2 only award so most videos focus on TF2.

I take a break from TF2 for a week and look what happens...

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I have noticed a gradual shift in the TF2 community for the worse over the years. It started with the hats; acquiring them became the be-all end-all for some people. Next, the F2P update allowed any broke, bored kid to join in rather than pay the admission fee that helped keep out the riff-raff. It also opened the door wide open for hackers. After all, why worry about getting VAC banned when you can just create another Steam account and start playing again within minutes?

Then the crafting and trading updates gave birth to the seedy underbelly of TF2: beggars, scammers and bean counters obsessed with metal and key prices instead of, you know, playing the goddamn game. Throw in the introduction of Quick Play that killed off community servers and the current TF2 community is barely recognizable when compared to 2007.

It's disappointing more than anything else. One of the reasons why I stuck with TF2 for the longest time was because of the community. Folks were generally friendlier and more helpful than most other online games. Now players hardly communicate at all, and when they do it's your typical mean-spirited shit talking half the time. You'll probably never see the likes of this nowadays:

To be fair, it's not like they were actively ruining the game experience for others (the program emulated a server rather than using an actual one). It was technically against the TOS though, so I understand why punitive action was taken. That said, Valve's subsequent blog post implying they were on the same level as aimbotters and LMAOBox users was unwarranted and only added fuel to the fire.

Funnily enough, I used the program (yeah I know, judge away) yet I still got the halo in a later update.

If remember reading that and thinking, "Wow, first idling and now this? This hat obsession has gone to an extreme." I guess Valve never explicitly stated they could or couldn't use the program. It's not really cheating like most people would think.

However, for such a small slap to the wrist, the outrage towards Valve in my opinion was pretty petty, Then again, my reaction to the Mannconomy update was kind of similar, so I'm not one to talk. Curse you Robin Walker for ruining this game, it was my favorite multiplayer shooter. *sobs
